Koni Yellow initial setting?
Koni Yellow initial setting?
Hey everybody. First, I want to apologize for the ignorance that this question may show, but I am a virgin to adjustable suspensions. I just got my brand new set of Koni Yellows via UPS from Excelerate Performance (thanks for the quick shipping, btw) and am planning on putting them on my 04 TL that already has CompTech lowering springs. My question is this: With this combo (Koni Yellows wth the Comptech springs), what would be a good initial setting to try the Yellows at? Thanks to everybody for your help.
And yes, I did learn to replace the shocks when I put lowering springs on in the future. The blown seals in all 4 OEM shocks is what led to the purchase of the Konis.

I would recommend just setting the damping to the middle setting. Also leave the strut bar and the rear seat out for now until you can determine what damping setting you like.
I bookmarked this one for when I install mine next weekend

It's a personal preference for street use.
and a science for track use.
for general street use, I would play around with the settings.
drive it on full soft and see how it feels.
compare it to stock.
then, blast it to full stiff.
see what you like and dont like.
Turn in will be greatly increased.
after, you compare both full soft and full stiff, try a middle setting.

Thank you everybody for the responses. The install is tomorrow morning, so I'll post back with what I figure out.
Big thanks again to Josh from Excelerate! Very fast shipment and $30-$40 per shock cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

I've written a hundred posts on this subject but no one searches. Your shocks are not meant to make up for overly soft springs. The shocks are there to control spring and body motion. Control, not add a bunch of artificial firmness. Too stiff and you hurt handling. For stockish springs, full soft or near full soft is best. As you go up in spring rate, it will require more rebound damping. I've got aspec springs in the front with a 29mm FSB and they're about 5/8 of the way to full stiff. The rears are about 3/4 of the way but I have a 25mm RSB and extremely stiff rear springs. Unless you have full race springs and not springs labeled as race but actual race stiffness, the Konis should be nowhere near the full firm position.
