i know the purpose of staggered rims but why on a TL

Hey guys i have an 06 RL and this morning on my way to work on the Northern State Pkwy i saw a black 04-06 TL with staggered rims and besides looks, are there any true benefits of having this on the FWD TL? as far as i see it only truly benefits rwd cars.

Just looks - if anything it will knock a bit off the cars handling. The car accelerates, brakes & turns all on the front wheels, does not make a whole lot of sense to have small tires on the front.

If you want to know how important the front is over the back just compare the factory brakes system F/R especially, if you have a Brembo setup.

All that being said even on RWD they can also be a problem. My BMW is factory staggered so you cant rotate your tires which on summer directional tires like I run the price of rubber is greater then a non-stagger set-up.

But if you're in it for pure function, going staggered is a waste, even a detriment.

Unless you stagger them in the front (ie. front wider than rear).

I went staggered cause I got a better deal....don't know why but it was cheaper so i went for it. And wider rear tires just look sick, like the person above me said...

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

couldn't we just answer his question without the ebonics/confrontational tone?

he's from NYC, he's young, and he already pointed out he knows of the aesthetic value; he asked a simple question regarding functional value.

- OP you got your answer.

^ HAHAHA!

It's called RWD envy/inadequacy. We all secretly long for RWD cars.

My first car was a '81 Firebird. If u didn't have real meaty tires that could grip the pavement you would fishtail all over the place, So, yeah, I had some like 265-60s or something like that out back.

Car was a POS but with the rear sittin' high it looked mean.

X2

I'm surprised at how many random people think the TL is RWD and to me, just looking at it, it looks RWD to me too.

If you want the look of staggered but not different sized rims you could get the same size rim but have different offsets front and back.

Let's not flame people.
It's only "fake" if you tell someone you have a Type-S when you don't, some people just like that look. Everyone has there own preferences and style.
If someone likes that staggered look, that's fine.
I spotted a staggered WDP yesterday on the SSP, couldn't catch up to it in the traffic, but it sure did look bad ass from behind, almost like a Porsche with those rolled fenders. Cough, was that you Allon?

Installing OEM parts that have a greater functional or aestetic value does imply Type-S emulation. Am I fake if I elect to change my 06 tails to 07 tails? or am i just an 07 wannabe. If I've cleared my headlights and tails, does that make me a Type-R faker... These mods don't imply your car is something it's not.

Hanging a Type-S BADGE on a base TL is fake.

Running wider rims in the back, for greater traction in the rear, implies RWD... which the TL is not. That's fake.

To all members in the thread and posting members, tone it down a bit, You aren't exactly fighting, but the small arguing isn't necessary.

cmon... the non-m e46 guys always do mods from the m3, are the fake too? i suppose, isn't that the whole point of ricing a car? back in the 90s the definition of rice is making a car (mostly civic) look fast yo, with body kits, huge wings...

so these bmw guys modding with M accessories = fake so does it mean rice? definately... but its "luxury rice" haha but we all do it, i do it with my stag set up as well.. its rice, but it looks nice.. nice rice... if u want to put it in those terms...

now a days, if its a honda... its rice to many people, no respect for hondas/acuras. that's fine with me german owners... sall good... our jap cars will out last any german car, are we cheap? or are we smart?

so stag set up = all looks and what?... call it fake, call it rice, but my fake, ghetto riced out fwd car

i love german cars don't get me wrong... drool m3, s5, gti, etc etc

IMO, the only time it is a fake is when you try to pass the car off as something it isn't .. like taking a 69 Malibu, getting the emblems, hood..etc from an SS and trying to pass it off as an SS.

Bigger tires, mods.. all that cool stuff is not fake.

I would have to agree with the moderator. Stop arguing over people's personal preferences. I have noticed that the same hater's show up in different threads. Hmmmm? Do your own thing and keep it moving.
