Question I don't understand Offset??

ok here are my questions
**What's the "default" offset for a 00TL
**Is the offset a big deal with the TL
**What are the offsets with any of these wheels: all in 17"
Advanti m967 marencia
Ace formula
ALT - 186
**will any of these wheels fit on a TL?
**should i worry a lot about offset?
**what kind of damage can happen if i have the wrong offset?

thanks!

SInce I have been pulling my hair out for the last month researching this, here are some answers.

Stock offset is +55
Usually anything below +48 will cause the wheel to stick out of the wheel well causing rubbing on the fender. This can vary with rim width (less of a problem with 7" than 8"

Usually cheaper 1-piece rims come in +40 maximum.

Haven't found one I like that's not.
You'll have to call manuf. to get the offset.

Check the Wheel/faq for Tann's post for more answers

Hey Adam, when you explained wheel size before that really helped. Maybe I can help you explain offset to those who still don't understand.

What confused me at first was how can a low offset cause the wheel to stick out??

This is how I understood it.
Well, if you think about it the closer the mounting surface is to the middle of the wheel(centerline) then the less the wheel will slide towards the car. If the wheel does not slide as far into the car, this will cause the whole wheel to stick out more.

So basically, it is how far the mounting surface is from the middle of the wheel. Like Adam said, ours is +55 which allows the wheel to slide in more. This also means that the mounting surface to the front of the wheel (outside, streetside away from car) is less. The offset safezone is around +50 offset for our cars.

So theoretically, if you get a wheel with the same offset, but in a wider width, you should no have a problem right? Most of the time if you don't go too wide. But you need to make sure you don't rub against the shocks and the fenders.

Tann's explaination is really good on how to calculate it, and things to keep in mind such as tires. http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum18/HTML/000001.html

If I have missed anything, please correct me.
