Think whatever you like, but 2 and half years and 40,000 miles later and my wheels still look better than before I painted them.

I agree. If you prep it right, paint it right, cure it right, duplicolor wheel coating will hold up very, very, very well. I just finished mine last weekend. They were curbed very badly.

Not really, this paint can take a beating, its not going to chip that easy but thats not to say it wont chip B/C it will over time.

Stock rims will chip over time as well. It happens.

I will probably end up doing this within a few months. I got my TL in March and the rims were curbed HORRIBLY. I'm going to have to fill the parts where it was really hit hard in and then paint. I should probably take pictures of before and after because if mine come out the way yours did, it will look remarkable.

I'm finally getting my TL back from my wife this week when we pick up her new car. Looks like I've only got a couple spots that I'll need to touch up from where she curbed them. Other then that, the paint is still holding up well after 2 and a half years.

I am looking to paint my wheels OEM 06 TSX wheels soon. I purchased the car used and they NEVER cleaned the inside of the wheels. There is a lot of rust run off and black spots all over the inside of the wheels. I scrubbed for an hour on one wheel and could not even get half of it off. Right where the spokes are there is a pile of black tar looking crap built up. Anyone know how to get this crap off? I even used some sand paper.

I used a brass drift with a sharp edge and a hammer to knock the tar off of my wheels.

Hmm I got most of the stuff you can actually feel by rubbing your finger across, but there is still fine black dots all over!

Surprised you didn't throw a few coats of clear on just for added protection...

You gotta realize you want to do as much as possible so when it comes time to get new tires you don't want the lips of the rims to be torn up from the machines.

I did.

To those who have done this, can you give me some tips as far as applying the clearcoat. I repainted my stocks silver and I applied 3 coats of clear. but its not glossy at all.

I did mine in black almost two years ago and they still look great. I also did the hubs black, the front calipers red and the rear calipers in black. That paint is tough and has held up well. I had to fix a few chips, but that is to be expected.

I'm really thinking about doing this because I have a spare set of wheels that are just sitting around. I was wondering if I can do this without having tires mounted already, or if when they rebalance the wheels the paint will chip?

Good thread and nice job guys! What about sanding or wet sanding each color coat? Do you think that would give even better durability or strength against chips? I would like to repair the rash on 2 of my wheels but after re reading this I may do a full on resto to them.

Great thread!! I purchased all the materials to do this and I'm gonna tackle this tomorrow after class. I tested it tonight on an old dirtbike hub (which is aluminum) to see how it's gonna cure over night.. since it'll be in the high 40's and 50's while I'm doing it tomorrow.
