Honestly, I don't really like the look of the 07 TL-S's especially the wheels. Maybe it will grow on me as I see more of them.

i just did this mod and boy do i like the look WAYYY better than the stock wheels...

however i feel that i didn't sand down the back wheels as much as i should have because the paint on the front wheels seems to be a deeper color (which i sanded more) or but it could be because i didn't but 'thick' enough coats on the back...either way i'm thinking if its worth the hassle to repaint the back two again...

I was thinking about painting my stock 07 TL-S wheels bright silver. Does that paint stick real good? I was thinking on several light coats then a clear coat. Will the paint stay on good without having a pro bake the paint???

Not a stupid question

Looks great, but what did you do about the wheel weights on the inside of the rim? And what happens when they are removed?

When I repainted a set of wheels (that didn't look as good as yours) they scratched the crap out of the inside of the rim removing the weights.

I'm thinking about color matching my '06 OEM wheels to my car (NBP) has anyone done this? I was also thinking about leaving the outer rim a metal look (get it polished) as well as possible the edges of the 5 spokes. I'm going to try to get time to do a photoshop of what it would look like.

another way to do this is never clean your wheels and they'll eventually turn black just like european cars

I got a friend who can do what ever I imagine with paint, so Im gonna ask him to get the same paint as my TL NBP and put it on my rims. Im gonna ask him to add a small RED LINE in the middle of each spokes to match the side lights its gonna be awesome when im gonna role...

Gonna post some photoshop pics soon...

They are holding up great. The last wheel I painted I skimped a little on the prep work(even though I preached that is the most important part) and it has a few chips in it now, when I get around to fixing them I'll make sure to take my own advice and spend a little more time on the prep.

They look nice, kind of like performance 17" wheels, I really like the way they look on your car, you should consider a lowered suspension now.

Thanks. I would consider lowering it, but the TL is now my wife's commuter car and weekend baby hauler. It's already too low for many of the roads it gets driven on.

Nice work. I bought a set of center caps for my wheels that would look awesome on those. Not sure what they're from (MDX?), but they were brand new take offs on e-bay. They are a charcoal color but the caliper logo and ring are in raised chrome. I like the contrast with my silver wheels and they really class them up a little bit. Biggest reason I got them was because the black logo on my stock ones was all faded. Here is a similar one, but black not charcoal.

great write-up!

i have a question though. you said you let them sit for a couple hours before remounting the wheels. but the duplicolor can says it cures in 7 days. was there an issue with dirt or brake dust the first time you washed them? does any crap stick to the paint since it wasnt fully cured when you drove on them?

i just painted a set, but i dont want to wait a week, im very inpatient. and i have a buyer waiting for my wheels.

I waited about 4 hours before remounting and was driving the car the next day. I didn't have any issues with the paint not being cured. It dries hard to the touch after about an hour. I'm sure it wasn't fully cured yet, but I didn't have any issues handling them or remounting them... just don't pressure wash, scrub, or hit them with a hammer for the first week and you should be ok.
