Does anyone make a kit or know how to repair curbed or scuffed up wheels? When I bought my car it had a few curbed places and the other day I went through a car wash and while lining up my wheels I hit the metal tray or whatever you call it and put a few scuff marks. Shit it made me mad as hell but I would like to get them fixed or reconditioned.

 

Long story short, it's mainly putty or bondo, sand, and paint over.

 

I looked into getting mine powder coated a local shop said it would be around 4 bills. Might be worth checking out.

 

The best way really is to sand down the scuffed parts, and fill them (if they are scuffs are deep enough), then either respray them or shop around for a good powdercoater. I found a local powdercoater who does 4 wheels for $200 bucks and quality work. They can be found.

 

Keep in mind you can buy brand new OEM spec wheels for $400, so anything approaching that and I'd just sell the old ones and get brand new ones.

That said, if I could get the repowdercoated for $200, I'd probably go that route. In the meantime, you can buy some silver touchup paint for $500 and fill in the scratches. You can make it use better by using bondo filler, though that can get messy and is not completely necessary.

I personally would not sand unless you are very patient and skilled with a paintbrush. Sanding is going to increase the area of the "bald spot" on your wheel and going to require you to put down a lot more touchup paint to cover it. This will be visually noticeable.

 

The touchup paint is $5, not $500. Haven't figured out how to edit a post yet. :\

My stock wheels have curb rash on them from previous owner but im just saving to buy new wheels. you can get all 4 XXR 527s for under $580 shipped. Ive never kept stock wheels for a car other than to swap in the winter time.

 

 

I was in Advanced Auto parts the other day getting some Bosch Icon windshield wipers as they had $10 off if you bought 2 blades. I may add these are awesome wiper blades. Anyway I asked if they had some kind of kit or touch up paint I could use and they were clueless. Hell I should have looked around myself more for some silver touch up paint mentioned above. I will try this route 1st and then if it looks obvious I will look into powdercoating possibly.

 

you must've been in a hurry to throw your car into an automated car wash. i hope this was a one time thing!

 

LOL actually its one of the only ones I will go to as it has very soft clothes that hang down in place of the rotating bristle like thingies a lot of them do. I've never scuffed my wheels before at this particular car wash so I wasn't happy to say the least.

 

Another option, depending on the look you want is plasti-dip. I am going to do the track wheels on my Z in black then with a silver metalizer. If you youtube it, you'll see what I'm talking about. Looks pretty sweet and seems to be durable.

You can replace the wheels with new aftermarket replacements for well under $150 each.

In fact, those are more bend resistant then the OEM's.
