How are Falkens Tires?....
I'm seriously considering upgrading my stock tires to hi-performance summer tires. My choices (based on internet feedback and ratings) are down to Goodyear Eagle F1-GS3D, Bridgestone Potenza S03 or Falken Azenis ST-115. I'm intrigued with the Falken 115's.....good treadwear for a Z-rated tire (360), supposedly very quiet and inexpensive (about $100/tire). However, I'm not very familar with the brand......any TL owners with these tires can give me more feedback?.....greatly appreciated.

I am a huge fan of Falkens, especially the Azenis... almost all of my friends with tuned cars ride on the ST115s. The tires are fantastic, sporty, Z rated tires that are ultra quiet and perform really well. I have already ordered my 235/35/19 ST115 tires for my forthcoming rim purchase. These are fantastic tires and I know that you will not be disappointed if you get them. Feel free to PM me if you need further information on the tires.

I swapped the factory Bridgestones for the Falken ZE-512 (all seasons) for the winter months. Absolutely no problems. Excellent ride and handling. I've put about 6000km on them thus far.

If the Falkens are that good, why even consider putting the Bullshitstones back on.......ever?

Actually, wouldn't it be best to use summer tires for summer and dedicated winter tires for winter and get the best of both worlds? Why even go with all-seasons?

Click on Tires, Select Optional tire search, by size, punch in your 225/40/18, and you will get a good selection, including Falkens or Nittos

awesome! thanks for the site.
i have 1 question tho, what does the treadwear number mean? i want a tire that will last a very long time.
i'm looking at the nitto neogen ZR with a treadwear of 280 OR the falken azenis ST115 with a treadwear of 360. that's a big difference. which is a better tire? thanks!

The treadwear rating is an arbitrary rating based on a tire with a rating of 100, so a tire rated at 400 would last 4 times as long, but is there anybody who can tell us how long the 100 rated tire will last?
Also, a treadwear rating of 400 for one manufacturer would not mean the same as another manufacturer's tire with a 400 rating.
It does give you a rough method of estimating the life of the tread, but it is not an exact science.
I do know that a Michelin with a rating of 400 is a long lasting tire, and another make tire with a rating of 400 should be, but no guarantees. The falken should last longer than the nitto, just comparing the treadwear ratings.
As for which is the better tire, there is no way of telling by just one piece of the rating puzzle. All the better tires get temperature and traction ratings of A or even AA, but none of this tells you how the tire handles, how much noise it makes, how comfortable it is, etc.

Nothing to do with the link, but I have a question. The weight given for the Ziex ZE-512 is 22.7 lb, the lightest tire there, and the heaviest tire is 27.3 lb.
Why the big difference in weight?

Well, I just got the Falken Azenis ST-115's installed today! (Stock size). Overall, great tire! Haven't tried them in the wet yet but in dry pavement, handling is much improved and grip far excels the EL-42's.

I am running on Falken FK-451 with the size 245/40/19. The ride quality has improved over stock and there is noo rubbing at all.
These tires grip really well once they are warmed up, and they are reasonable quiet for summer tires.

I'm not criticizing the Falkens in any way, because I have no experience with them, but realize that the Consumer Reports test didn't test all performance levels of all season tires. For example, go to the Tire Rack site and note all of the different "grades" they have defined (very high performance, etc.).
In the CR test, the MOST expensive tire was $120 (Michelin MXV4), and the cheapest was $60 (the Falken) (prices apply to the size they tested). CR called them "performance all-season tires". Other tires in the same category were the Dunlop SP Sport A2, Bridgestone Turanza LS-H, and many others.
That's not to say they aren't all BETTER than the stock Bridgestone EL-42, and they don't work well on the TL. My only point is that there are higher performance all-season tires out there, at a higher cost. So we don't know how CR would feel about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, Pirelli P-Zero Nero, and others that people here are buying. Just a guess: Those tires would have higher performance limits in some categories, about the same in others, and would be a little noisier and harsher than the tires they tested.
