How do you swallow spending ~$3000 on wheels/tires?

I'm considering a used 04 TL and wanted to add some spice to it by getting new wheels/tires. After browsing the photos in this forum, I found the perfect looking TL belonging to fan_bo

After googling the wheels (Volk TE-37) the average price of a set was over $3000... Now I'm thinking about just keeping the stock wheels, they're not so bad... but those TE-37s look so damn hot

I would probably keep the TL for 3-4 years and then sell it. Do most people store the original wheels/tires in good condition and reattach them when they sell the car. Then the aftermarket wheels/tires are sold separately (how much would they depreciate though?)?

You are paying for quality, lightness, forged in Volk Rims......besides most rims take a few months to get so usually you pay half up front and then the balance when they come in.........actually $3000.00 is not bad for Volk's 19's and tires. I am sure if you shop around you get can a better price also with the tires it depends on what kind of rubber you want to use will dictate on how much you will be spending.

I have Falken's 451's (452's are out now) with my Volks....couldnt be happier.

Volk resale value is pretty good, but on all rims you will lose money when you go to sell them. I've owned 2 sets of Volks and I sold them fairly quickly and received a good portion of my money back.

I dont think I could ever pay 3K for wheels. My Rays with tires came to about 2K. I went with Kumho's which were considerably cheaper. Its like dropping 5K on a S/C, its just a waste of money IMO..

fuzion 245/35/zr19 dont know the exact model of tire or whatever but I am pretty sure there is only one in that size.

Honestly though I am about to get some more performance oriented tires for my RJ's cause I just cant find traction in 1st or second. Same with the stock tires though, its not so mucha tire issue, just a lkot of HP front wheel drive.

Anyone have any good suggestions for high performance tires in the same size as above??

It so easy to mess rims up I only paid about 2000 for my 20"s but I have already hit a curb so just buy something reasonable this is my second set i had 19"s at first.

Thats all subjective.......getting the S/C will make your car considerably faster. Plus with all the R&D and carb cert is not cheap.....so for some people its well worth the money....if they are into the performance part of it.......even though the TL is plenty fast already.

For the TL you won't need really any super performance tires unless you track the car a lot.......then you would go with something like R- compound and have a set for a tires for cruising like Falkens or in your case Kumhos.

Also the higher you go in price you will see less of the wheels you have on versus one that is cheaper and more affordable. Doesnt make it bad but I like having a rim that not a lot of people have or no one has........but thats just me.

Everything has their own preference on how they mod their car....thats what makes it great.......as long as your happy with the way your car is that is all that matters.....no one should be talking crap about anyone buying expensive rims or cheap rims.......we are all car enthusiasts here.......

I prefer Volks myself also.....

I wish I could've found some wheels I liked that only cost $3k. As for your other questions, yes, most people store their OEM's and put them back on when they sell the car. A good quality wheel in good condition will have good resale value.

Just wanted to point out that when I first saw this thread from the main page: under recent post: all it said was newest thread: How To Swallow.lol. I thiought that was funny.

Anyways. I know Im not spending more than 1500 on mine, rims and tire. VOLK always have good resell value. Even the one that get F'd up with curge damage. Do a quick search on ebay and see how much they are re-selling for.

Ha. That's so funny because it's so petty.
Unfortunately almost all "the ladies" don't notice the difference between a $700 rim and a $100. They have no idea what 3 piece forged vs. spun cast really means. If "te ladies"were interested in anything, it would be the fact you have $3K in disposable income which you liquidated on silly wheels, and they would be intereste din helping you part with the rest of it... not my kind of ladies.
Not saying all ladies are like this, just saying the kind of ladies you'd expect to attract with bling.

I bought a Harley a few years back with the same misconception as you stated above. What I found is the Harley attracts 90% dudes who want to check out my handywork, and 10% of the ladies that were interested could care less about the $10,000 in mods to the bike... all they wanted was a ride on the back.
