Help with tire selection (to replace Kumho 712)

I got Kumho 712 (215/55-16 on stock rims with comptech springs) about 15000 miles ago. I have been rather satisfied at first (after horrible stock tires) but now I'm thinking about replacing them. The tread is still OK except for some extra wear at the inner sides of the rear (now, after I rotate them) tires. However, what I hate is how noise they are in the turns - they squeak (even in not really hard turns) almost as much as my original tires. So while the car might be still very far from the limit, I feel embarrassed by this noise. Recently I put Yokohama AVS dB on my wife's accord (total stock) and it can do much harder turns now without single squeak. Unf., I can not find them in 215/55-16.

What other tires can I try and expect good handling and low noise? What about S-03? ARe they silent in turns? Thanks!

Why don't you go with 225/55/16 tires. The width is a little wider so you might have better grip. S-03 are good tires, but the price and treadwear might not be the best. By using 225/55 instead of 215/55, you will get more to chose from.

I'm a little bit concirn that I can get rubbing with 225/555-16 and comptech springs...

In any case, I'm looking for advice on what tires would have a good performance and would not scream at each hard turn as dying pig....

I'm runnint 225/55 r16's with comptech drop and no rubbing at all even lock to lock.

I actualy got talked into geting some dayton daytona zr's by a firestone dealer. They look ok and are very simular to the bridgetone RE730. no squeeling or anything.

May be I should, at least, try to make aliment. As I understand, it likely would not solve the problem completely but might help a little. I shoudl admit that I never did it since I got the car.

Where do you usully make it? At the dealership? Tire shop?

Didn't you get an aligment after the CT springs?

It might sound stupid but I'm not sure. I did installation at Acura dealership and assumed that they would know what they do. Now I'm not sure ... On other side, I had stock tires for ~12,000 miles after CT springs installation and when I took them off I didn't really notice any extra wear. However, Kumho looked pretty bad after ~10,000 miles.

Anyway, what would be a good place to have aliment done? Dealer? I've read here some "terrible" stories about bad aliment work. Any experience on particular place in San Diego? I remember I asked about this once at "Discount tires" but they don't do aliment...

You can get aligment done almost anywhere, but the dealerships will charge you too much. I used to had mine done when there was Montgomery Wards. My friend worked there and they had a lifetime warranty. You can call Midas, I heard they have the newer machines which will be a big plus.

I called couple Midas shops but they all sad that their computers are not set for 2000 AcuraTL?? Couple other places (including dealer) refused to do aliment for lowered car. I also called Sears Auto Center and got estimation $54. Did anybody have any good/bad experience with Sears? "True Line" autoshop offered me camber correction for $260+ or regular aliment for ~$70. Any advice? thanks

Sears should be ok, but you should ask them about warranty. You can always look in the yellow pages and start calling shops. Which part of CA are you from? If your lowered with CT, I don't think you need a camber correction or adjustment.

Sears gives 6months/6,000miles warranty for aliment. May be I'll try them later this week (I'm in San Diego). And I'm not ready to pay $$$ for camber correction...

I had Cush Acura of Escondido do an allignment on my car and I have CT springs as well, I think they charged me $65. A place like discount tire should do them for a good price. I havent noticed any uneven wearing but my rear tires wore out ALOT faster then my front for some reason (very odd to me). I have Dunlop W10's in 215x55x16 and after 12k miles on them they're pretty much bald I'm looking for a new set of 225x55x16 to put on.

215/55/16 is a bit small for the TL. The correct size should be 225/55/16. I don't know the UTQG specs on the Dunlop W10, but you should try something that has a high UTQG rating....something like 300 or 340. I'm pretty sure they will last more than 12k miles.

BTW, if you only had 12k miles on those 215/55/16 tires, it's most likely that it's less than 12k miles cause those tires has a higher rpm. I think it's probably more like 11,500 miles. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

actually a tire size calculator I used reported them to be 1.5% smaller then stock tire size, I know they're kinda small thats why I'm getting 225's next. I've put around 11,750 on the odometer with them, throw in the error correction and its around 12,000, bottom line is these tires wear too fast, with or without correcting for the error

you can get the yokohama avs db in a 225/55/16 and they wont rub. i have those tires on stock rims with the h&r sport springs #2 which lowered the front 1.75 and rear 1.5 no problems and very nice tread design. and based on the 225 x .55= 123 and the stock tires 205/50/16= 123 the size comes out the same in metric.
