Question Help Needed with 20" Wheels Help before purchasing

Hi Guys,

First off I want to thank you for reading this post and would appreciate your help.

I have a 2005 6MT TL.

I know someone that is selling their Donz Giancana 20" Wheels and tires.

The information from the seller that I got is:

20x8.5, 5x114.3 (5x4.5), 42 OFFSET.

Can you guys share any information about these wheels. I am looking to get these in black with a chrome lip. Will they fit my car, will I have to make any modifications to the car like fender rolling or something. Will I need spacers, and will they clear the brembos, etc...?

Thanks in advance

I dont think you should have an issue with fitment... I am going to repost your thread in Al's thread which is for fitment questions, he will be able to give you a more definite answer

^ You gotta be careful if you have 6mt... Those Brembos in front make it tough. I was looking at some Donz Bonano's or the Bugsy's and I was told I would need spacers... can't be sure though...

Yea thats what I was thinking, I'm waiting to see if I can meet with the Seller and put them on. The Tires on the rims are 225/35/20, what do you guys think about that. Is that a good fit and look on the TL. thanks.

I can't really help you with the rim situation unfortunantly, but I can answer your concern with wheels. I have a set of the 20" RJ Legend II's on my 5AT 3G TL wrapped with Yokohama S-Line 245/35/20 tires. They are great tires, but I feel the side wall, even though they are 35s, are way too damn big. I've seen other 35s up close and in person, and they don't look as big as mine. I don't know if it's the manufacturer or what, but they are bigger than others. I have heard from other AZ members that the 35s will set off your speedometer, but I've never had that problem (I've driven next to friends to test that theory). Next set I'll prob bump down to the 30s (even though they are more money) because I don't like how the 35s look and I feel like my ride height may not be so bad as it is now. I would love to drop the car but I really can't afford it right now, so I'm pretty high up. Nothing crazy, no 4x4 looking shit, but definetly not close enough to the ground. Here's a few pics of my 20s with the 245/35/20s:

I love my car, esp the rims, but the tires drive me crazy. I've never had a problem with them at all (except for getting a bolt in one and being stuck at work for an extra 4 hours), but I would highly recommend them.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who can help you out with the tire situation...I'm no expert

Gook luck with whatever you decide to do!

^ maybe it's cuz you have 245/35. That may be the reason that there's so 'much' sidewall on your tires (and don't 'look' low profile enough for you?) I got 235/35 and they seem ok...

you can get away with 225/35-20...and as for the wheels, probably will need like a 5-7mm spacer

^^^ CLtotheTL32... any rubbing with that set up (245/35/20) or did you roll the fenders? What is the offset on your RJ's? IMO a 225 is too narrow and looks funny.

Thanks for the help guys. I am trying to get down to meet the guy later this weekend to get these wheels on the car and really see how they're gonna look. I am really looking for a tire that will be flush with the fender or even stick out a little more. Is the 235 or 245 gonna be able to do that for me? I am assuming that I won't get that look with the 225 correct?

This will give you a better idea of how mine fit... with the 235s... can't be sure what the offset of my wheels are, though. When I ordered them I just told the guy make sure they fit a TL 6mt with front Brembos!

Back

Front

Both (oh I got camber in the back too, so with a camber kit...it should look more flushed, I think)

Those wheels look perfect on your car... If you don't mind me asking can you shoot me a pm of how much the cost? And where you got them from? Thx

It's just that I've seen plenty of 35's on my friends cars and mine seem to be the "thickest". Next set I'm getting 30's.

Sorry I'm getting back to you so late man...I guess that's why you sent me a message about it haha. I'm running a 40mm offset. I didn't roll the fenders and no rubbing at all unless I crank the wheel and I rub a little in the wheelwell. Nothing serious. 225 is too narrow, I agree, that's why I got 245s

^ Well I mean if you're just talkin about the ratio of the sidewall thickness to width of the the tire, then yours will be bigger. I mean unless your friends are also running on 245s and yours still seem to be the thickest I would suspect maybe they're running a thinner tire? maybe smaller diameter? The 35 is just a ratio of the 'width' of your tire, right? So you running with the wider tire than me (245 vs 235), yours would be the 'thicker' looking even though we're both on 35 series tires, you know what I mean? Someone else can correct me, but that's the way I understand it.

My friend has a 05 TL 5AT A-Spec running 265/35/19s and the sidewall is a lot smaller than mine it seems. His tires are wider, but has 19's and not 20's. I wouldn't think that because my rims are bigger, that even though the side wall size is 35, that it would be that big of a difference.

Here is a pic for reference:

You may not think there is a difference, but I think there is, and it is a lot more noticable in person.

I've always wondered if manufacturers say they are 35s, but add a few more mm to them so they withstand potholes and such. I honestly have no idea.

Maybe brands matter? I know that the 245 or 235 or even 265 is the tires width in millimeters? And that the 'series' is the aspect ratio (55 or 45 or 35) and that number is the roughly the percentage of the width. So maybe you're getting into the "roughly" area?

I see what you're talking about though. They do seem kinda thick.

I'm no tire guru, and it sounds like you know what you are talking about, so I'll just go with that haha. So I guess I got the "high end" of the 35s.

My current tires don't look thattttt bad, but they are thicker than I would like them to be. This set up raised my car up like hell and now I have to drop it just so it doesn't look like a 4x4 anymore. Oh well.

Thanks for your input
