Hankook tires VS Michelin

I'm having trouble understanding the difference between the Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105 tires that are $120/tire VS the Michelin® Pilot® MXM4® which are nearly $300/tire. The Hankook ones are also

I love my car, but not sure about dropping 1400 for the tire set. Any input would be awesome! Also, any other great suggestions?

Regards.

Okay, so here's the update. I heard the Eage F1's (245's) are pretty good. I got a quote here for everything total, 4 tires + installation and all, $735. I'm okay with this - any thoughts?

No matter what you do, do NOT get the stock tires.

Anyone had any problems with the stock tires? The reason I'm replacing mine is because one developed a bubble in it and it looks like Michelin only wants to prorate. But what can you do I guess, they have 40k. I have noticed that they are CRAPPY in the rain - almost lost control a few times.

Cool non-oem tires

I have an 07 TL/s and my stock tires have reached their end of life. I would not replace with stock tires- Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, even the dealer says they are poor choice. Researching I have found the Yokohama AVID W4S rated the best, second the Kumho Ecsta ASX, third the Pirelli PZ Nero M&S Pinna RFT(run flat tire).
From TireRack.com. For me it's the Yokohama's.
Any response with your experience would be helpful.
Thanks, Ron

I was debating on which tires to get too. I have the stock Michelin and at 40k too and just riding on the tread indicator. My choices were Goodyear F1, Continental Extreme Contact and Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (about $170ish). After reading some reviews on tirerack, Im probably going to get protenza. I read some reivews that said the Goodyear F1 and Continental lasted about 20k and tire noise increased as the tread wear down.

I planned on getting "245/40/17" more wheel protection, recommended by csmeance, but they dont make the size 245/45/17, i think give a little more height? I wanted a little more low profile look.

I might just get stock size. TireRack is a great place to read reviews.

The Hankook performance will degrade significantly once the wear is below 80%. Where as the Michelin will hold its near new performance for much longer. Whether or not it's worth the cost is up to you. I tried the Hankook and is now back to Michelin.
