Had my curbed rims all repaired today - Chicagoland suburbs mobile repair guy info

Just got all 4 rims refinished / touched up this morning, after "curbing" the last 2. /sigh The guy came out to my house in the Chicagoland suburbs with a mobile repair shop, took all 4 off, repaired, repainted, and remounted, right in my driveway! Took about 2 hours, he can do it in any kind of weather in the mobile truck facilty. Cost... $75 per wheel, sure beats having to buy 4 new rims! Looks brand new, you can't tell at all... I'l going to go take a few pictures and post them for you guys. Can't wash the car for a few days as they're painted and clearcoated and it's gotta set up some / cure, but this is a cool service.

He said they can repair just about any kind of rim or finish except for chrome, those have to be sent out and re-chromed. If I get the a-spec rims I will get gunmetal or silver sparkle for that reason, at least they can be repaired. They can also straighten out bent rims.

I think they mostly cover only DuPage Cty and the suburbs...not all of Chicago but give them a call and ask.

very nice, now try not to curb them again..........

I wouldnt mind doing this, but I know I will scratch them up anyways, so no point in doing it for me until maybe if I decide to sell the car and bring it to tip top shape.

Problem is that I would have to do it every other month...

For some reason I tend to scretch mine pretty often parking in the city... never had that problem with my Audi A4... are TL rims wider then? they stick out a bit more. But thanks for the info... I might use him to fix one of the rims on my wife's Outback... one of the rims has peeling clearcoat...

Yea, AWRS has been mentioned in previous threads a several members have had their wheels repaired. They have locations nationwide and from what I've seen and read they've provided excellent service.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pre-fix pictures...they weren't TOO bad...but when all 4 were damaged I decided it was time to do it. The guy laughed and said he does a lot of TLs! hehe

Too bad the owner and founder of this company can't even return a phone call when I needed my rim repaired. I'm glad to hear that his franchisees aren't anything like him.

Thanks for the info! My dealer has someone do them for $100 per, but they didn't do nearly as good a job as what's shown in your pics and I suspect they didn't bother to clearcoat them.

Looks pretty good. Would have liked some pre-repair shots just for comparison but from those pics I can't tell where the original damage was.

I'm curious as to "how" they repair them... Do they use a "fill metal", or an epoxy. How's does this work?

quick question for you,

can you "feel" where the repair was? I have seen some that the paint job is not good, and if you run your hand on the part that was repaired, it is not smooth, almost as if it is all overspray or something.

I can't tell where they were done. I went to touch it right after the repair and he said STOP! hehe..it was still drying. I've done it since though and I have no idea which spots he did.

As far as how they did it....it explains it a little bit on their website. I didnt' stand there and watch though. He brought out a big mobile truck with a full indoor paint booth inside of it and all, they break the bead on the tire....fix the damage...paint and reclear it. Not sure if they filled it or what...I asked about epoxy / filler, and he said no, they dont use that, but didn't elaborate.
