H&R coilover problem

Whats up everyone? I am new to the forum and hate for my first post to be a problem I am having....but it is what it is I guess. I purchased my 07 TL-S last month with 50k on it, I immediately purchased a set of H&R coilovers for it from Tirerack. After installation things were going smoothly until I noticed a horrid sound coming from the rear of the car when going over the slightest bump. Upon further inspection of the rear coilover I noticed this:

Is this a normal gap to have at the bottom of the strut? To temporarily fix the problem I threw a couple washers in there to shim it I guess you could say and I am still having the same sound. I am riding pretty low, all the way down in the front and 10 threads from the bottom in the rear but I have never had these types of noises in previous cars when going with a name brand coilover system. Sorry for the long write up I just want to give as much information as possible! Thanks

^^ these types of noises over bumps are almost always associated to the endlinks goin or being loose up front or in the rear. trust i know cause ive replaced/re-tightened all four of mine
