Exclamation Gorilla Wheel Lock & 2005 TL OEM Wheels?

I am going to be the proud owner of a 2005 Acura TL (Abyss Blue with Ebony Int) when I pick up the car from the dealer on April 18, 2005.

I have searched this forum to see if the Gorilla Wheel Locks would fit the Acura TL stock wheels (Remember they need a Ball Seat Nut).

I went on Gorilla's Web Site and the closest match is their Honda Locks (Kit number 38431N) which is a Ball Seat with the right thread.

Is there anybody on this forum that is actually using those specific locks on their TL as the one supplied by McGard at the Acura Dealer are 0.180 inch taller and I am worried about the lugs bottoming out in the nut.

I have called Gorilla but they have yet to provide an answer.

FYI, They also offer their "SYSTEM" which includes 20 locks like the one supplied in their 38431N Kit, their part number is 38433N.

Best regards

frenchnew from Montreal that is afraid of getting his wheels stolen.

After owning McGard's for the past 5 years (2 set) I am counting on the fact that the key supplied by Gorilla will be more durable due to the fact that it is made out of tool steel as opposed to McGard's Key which is aluminium (The Honda/Acura models).

If I do not get a reply I will still order Gorilla and hope they will fit as we have a serious epidemic of those wheels being stolen in my area of travel (Montreal)

Best regards

I have the Gorilla locks on my aftermarket OZ wheels. I also opted to get the 20 lock set simply because it looks better when they are all matching. I like the Gorilla locks because of the styling, and it is easy to obtain an extra key. The only thing I didn't like was that the key won't match up to the factory lug wrentch in the trunk. So now I'm on the hunt for one that will work and fit in the holder in the trunk. I think the maxima's will work.

did you try calling them to verify fitment? Some wheel shops have gorilla locks.. maybe they would be nice enough to fit one on there for you to make sure it fits properly

I did call but Gorilla could not confirm fitment.

Since I am located in Montreal Canada, there are very few shops that carries Gorilla and I have yet to find one.

Worst scenario, I will order them from Summit Racing (the only online store) that actually have the specific Gorilla part number for the whole lock system (20 lock nut) and try them myself. It's Gorilla part number 38433N and those have a ball seat.

Thank you

Update, March 28, 2005.

I was finally able to get a confirmation from Gorilla's Customer service that their Wheel Lock System (20 Locks) part number 38433N will fit the stock 2005 TL wheels.

So of to Summit Racing website to order them as they will not ship until April 11, 2005.

Follow Up,

The Gorilla Wheel Locks part # 38433N (This is the kit of 20 lock nuts) fits the OEM wheels perfectly.

I installed them today after checking that they would not bottom out before the wheel is properly secured since they are about 1/2" shorter then the OEM lug nut.

Even if they are shorter, there is still approx. 1/4" clearance before the lug bottom out inside the lock nut.

Best regards

You will have to call them to inquire about the availability in Black as I did not see them on their website.

Nor did not see the part number for the wheel lock system I purchased, I had to call them to confirm.

Please note that the 38433N is a "Ball Seat" like is required by the OEM Acura wheels.

Best regards from Montreal

If you get aftermarket wheels, do you need to get different seats and sizes on the Gorilla locks?

I am getting a set of wheel locks from Germany. I had their locks for the Audi.

I'll post some pics when they arrive.

most aftermarket wheels uses cone seats nuts/bolts instead of ball seats for the OEM market.

Like kennyc replied;

Acura / Honda use a "Ball Seat" where the end of the lug nut is "Ball" shape.

Most Aftermarket Wheels are "Cone Seat" with exceptions. Ron Jon Wheels are "Ball Seat" type. You better check with the wheel dealer to confirm.

It is not recomended to use "Ball Seat" lug nuts on "Cone Seat" type wheels or "Cone Seat" lug nut on "Ball Seat" type wheels.

They have pictures at Gorilla's website: http://www.gorilla-auto.com/products...=259&sfID2=260

Check out the "Honda Lock" This is the model I am using with my Original Wheels.

Best regards

Is each set of these gorilla locks specially made differently from each other? Or if I buy these set of locks and another person buy the same set of locks, will the key be the same or different? I want to ask this because on the Summit Racing website it said the application was universal. I hope the key is different for every set because if not then these locks are useless. Can someone please confirm on this? Thank you.
