going stagger good or bad?

I'm currently in the market of purchasing some wheels, but I was wondering what are the cons of getting them stagger since the tl is a fwd vehicle and there is no real pro of getting this done besides the looks? I'm pretty sure this is a question thats been ask but please an light me with some opinions.

i just did, and i couldnt find anyone discussing the "bad". only the "how good it looks".

the one bad i can think of is the limited ability to rotate the tires, and if you get directional tires then there is no way to rotate. so you will probably burn through tires a lot quicker.

i was going to do this, but i realized how ridiculous the idea of staggering a FWD car is. i got past that stage after selling my integra with a saleen wing.

no offense to anyone here.

I agree. IMO looks/seems retarded on a FWD sedan. Now on a RWD sports car, that different.

A typical FWD car like the TL has a front weight bias. If you are proposing to run larger tires in the back than you should probably increase the diameter of the rear sway bar as well. Larger rear tires will increase the amount of understeer and a larger rear sway bar will help to offset this. There are no pros to doing this. It would be for looks only and some folks that know it is FWD might think it is somewhat odd.

I would not do it but then again I would not run 19 or 20 inch wheels either.

Well thanks for the responses and opinions. I guess the stagger look is for Rwd vehicles but than again to each is own hopefully when I get to the shop I would had made up my mind.

well not sure if you want performance, but if you do, then no to the staggered wheels, but if you want it for looks...well...

Compelling... Good thing you've compromised the highway safety of your car to look SIKKKK and get complements. What kind of compliments do you think you'll get when you're in that telephone pole...?

I think the person that said staggering wheels on a FWD car was retarded summed it up best. Reminds me of people who used to buy the fake cell phone antennas at Autozone and stick them on their back window.

its pure aesthetics

i mean, i know the TL isnt any of the below, but...

Benz, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, all have staggered wheels.... granted those are RWD cars, staggered looks good no matter what.... if you compromise a tiny bit of performance for looks, it might be worth it

me personally, swore i would never stag.... but..... we'll see what happens

I disagree. Staggered *looks* great on the TL. Everytime somebody post pics of a staggered TL with some nice wheels and a drop, people go ape-shit drooling all over it. It *does* look good.

The difference with RWD it aslo adds a performance benefit; with FWD it doesn't. Some people "in the know" might pick up on that and know the car is poser; set up primarily for looks.

Do it if you like it. Just don't expect it to handle as well as a non-staggered TL.

Im prolly gonna get hated on this but............

I will run a staggered set up aswell, BUT, Its TE37's so the face looks EXACTLY the same between 7.5/8.5. Meaning it has the same size lip, so you cant tell its staggered. Heres the part where PPL might start hating. I will run the rears (8.5) up front and the 7.5 will be in the back with a 20mm spacer.

i have a staggered set up myself..... would never have gone any other way.. im not into performance so if i lose a litle to gain in the wow factor its a pretty simple choice.... oh and as far as stability ive had my car up to 110 on those puppies and i feel just as safe/solid as i would on my stock 17's ( and yes flame me for going that fast on 20 inch rims it was a one time deal i dont care!) i n the end its up to you, some people digg it some despise it, its your car, do with it what yo uwant! happy modding!

Say I was not going stagger would it be better to get 19's X8 or 19's X9 all around as far as not losing to much performance or ride?

Did you get an alignment done? I think that would be a reason for your car to be unstable at high speeds. I dont think staggered fitment has anything to do with being unstable at high speeds.

I have a staggered fitment too, and just recently my car began to scare me at those speeds, but I havent gotten an alignment done since I put my wheels on.....

You can "solve" the tire issues by getting the same width tires all the way around. 245-35/19's will fit on both the 8.5" and the 9.5" width rims. They will be a bit "stretched" on the 9.5's but they will work. The one problem with this is that your rotations now may cost a bit more as the shop would have to dis-mount and then re-mount them at each rotation. Kinda a pain but could save you 10K miles in the end. Most that get the staggered are simply doing so in order to get the big lip in the back. It does look a bit odd to those who know the Acura is a front wheel drive car, but let's face it, people who don't have one and don't visit this forum may not actually have ANY idea it's a FWD car so the decision is up to you. There are minor handling issues (under steer is exaggerated) but since most of us are running our cars on a race track, it also doesn't really matter that much.

Alignment ey? I'm going home this weekend so i guess il bring it to a shop and see what the problem is.... but before that I need to get new TPMS sensors to put on my new rims.

it's all about personal taste and style. If you like it then go ahead and do it.

But handling wise, I heard it isn't great for the tl since it's fwd.

they are right. it is all about personal taste and style. i think that i retract my first statement.

12 years ago, I built this:

http://www.chrisreyes.com/pics/caradv.jpg

if you were into the import scene when it was hot, my car was up there as one of the most recognizable cars in the market. would i do all of that again? probably not, unless i was a millionaire (working on that) granted, it's not as extreme as stagger on fwd, but it was just as useless, though it did look good.

so, really.....do what you want. it may not make sense to anyone else, but as long as it makes sense to you, why now....
