I'll be getting this kit within the next week or so. Who else has them?

Save me some time, tell me about your settings .

Running BC's as well - I went with 12F/10R for the spring rates - could have gone stiffer, in fact i may change them up for stiffer in the future, my dampening right now is around 15 clicks from 0 (soft) for front and rear seems to be okay for me..

Damn, that looks fantastic. I'm wanting to preserve the ride quality as best I can, drop the rear about 1" and the front 1.5". What settings do you suggest?

the thing about coilovers is that it's personal.
my personal settings will not be like your personal settings.

i have my BC spring rate at 12F/10 Rear.
and at first i cranked up the damping pretty stiff, until co-workers complained that it was too stiff, so i dialled it back some.

The thing is, because I have the Lotus, I don't need that sort of thing for the TL. My goal for it is simply to keep the ride quality as near as possible to stock, but drop the car to a reasonable level, and even it out while doing so.

I know that when I drop the car I will need to stiffen it up a little, but I would like that to be minimal.

Do you guys consider 1" and 1.5" to be a significant drop on these cars?

see, its a personal choice, as you pointed out!

1" F and 1.5" in the rear is not a significant drop and will look pretty stock-like.

since you do have the Lotus, why not spend all your time and energy on that machine!?

as your TL sits now with the wheels, it looks pretty awesome!

Your car looks fantastic. How much would you estimate it's dropped in the rear? And in the front?

The Lotus is done, just needs some tweaking. And there are several reasons for the BC suspension.

1. My TL has 82,000 miles, it'll be time for struts soon, so I might as well do it right.
2. The fact that it's uneven front to rear, with regards to drop, bugs the hell out of me.
3. I must fit 265/35 next time. The 255/40 was chosen to take up a little bit of the wheel gap without dropping the car, making the car appear to be dropped when it's not.

I have 1 finger gap in rear and 1 finger gap in front.

i kept the stock "raked" look.

its low enough to look lowered but not low enough to drag on things

I'm trying to convert fingers to inches now lol. I wonder if you could measure your ride height for me just behind the front tire, and just in front of the rear tire?

The Lotus sits low enough, but will be dropped on BC coil-overs this year as well.

This is probably a better pic to show the drop on the Lotus. It's not completely accurate though, as I have 2 sets of wheels and tires. This is my Summer set, on which I run full slicks, and the sidewalls are very short.

My Winter set, Toyo R888's on factory LSS wheels, have much taller sidewalls. There is no gap at all in the front, and only slight in the back. The lotus requires rake as well.

I agree - while hearing of others settings, you will want to adjust to suit your preference, even with rolled fenders i still had some rubbing, so I had to stiffen up the settings little more. that lotus tho

Your wheels are more aggressive than mine though, right? Mine are 18 x 9.5 +40. Were you rubbing at the top, or at the lip?

And do you know your drop amount front and rear?

awesome photography Andrew!

Like Justin says, I think your car looks pretty good on those current settings, an inch or so might make you like it more but that's the beauty of Coilovers, they're settings can be changed fairly easily!

I think the pictures are making it look better than it really does in real life. I have a deep-rooted need for 265/35, soft ride, and very little gap. I'm getting there .

Andrew, i can measure for you.

and I love the beef, i'm waiting for these current tires to wear so that I can put on a 255, or maybe be like you and spring for the 265's

my wheel specs are 18x9.5 +22

Damn that car sits right! I guess I'll just have to play with the settings once I get the suspension. It would have been great just to bolt them on with the correct settings, but now that I think about it, that'd be nearly impossible.

I'll be selling my 255's at at great price, they have less than 1,000 miles on them, but they are 255/40, so slightly taller than most.

here's an install pic.

you can see how short the BC's are compared to Koni Yellows.

and yes, it took me a month to adjust height to where i wanted it. :/

ANdrew, you might be in luck, i did measure the shock shaft height for the BC's and might have recorded the measurements

I guess I read a thread somewhere that scared me. The guy set his suspension too low, then had to raise them, and had all sorts of issues. They weren't BC, but the same idea applies.

So I should just probably leave them high, install, then slowly lower them to where they need to be. Is this a difficult thing? Forgive my n00b questions, my coil-overs on the Lotus are non-adjustable.

As long as you are properly adjusting the coilovers there shouldn't be any issues raising or lowering the car. That's one of the best reasons to go with a adjustable coilover.. to dial in the height!

I can get you measurements today, but my wheels are probably not as aggressive - 18x8.75 +35- rubber is 235/40, but i'll be going for a different wheel set up this summer - time to change out the 530's.

Your wheels sit almost exactly where mine do, they're only inward 4.5mm.

When I installed my coilovers on my older Accord a while back, I went too low and the next weekend, moved them up, didn't have any problems..

Would there be a way to eyeball the stock strut beside the new coil-over and set it generally where it needs to be that way? Forgive me, the coil-overs on my Lotus aren't adjustable, so this is all new to me.

Your stock suspension will compress very differently than the coilover so that wouldn't really work, even if the coilover was as long as the stock setup. Most coilovers are naturally shorter and thus add at least about a 1" drop on most cars. See post #26 above, you can see the length difference.

So how do people get a baseline? Set it all the way up and lower as needed?

I pretty much installed them as is and then adjusted after installing and doing an initial drop back on the tires, checked measurements, and see how much tire was rubbing then jacked it back up and then adjusted the coils. if I recall it was about 4 inches or so from the top lock ring, to the bottom lock ring, so you could do that, before installing maybe go about 5 inches since you have a taller/beefier tire - then install.

As for my measurements - i'm sitting at 24.5" from ground (more or less bottom of tire through the wheel) to fender in the front and 25" in the rear...at the setting, probably wouldn't be able to run such beefy tires - as my front rubs once in a while.

if i had to do it over again, i'd extend the BC's out of the box to match stock length shock shaft, or an inch lower.
i'd make sure that the front two are at the same height before i put them on the car.

then play from there.
this allows you to skip 1 step from what was posted above ^

Sorry to steal your photo Justin - but for illustration purposes

Okay so, I measured from the top of the upper lock ring to the bottom of the lower rock ring - i went about 4 inches...so as a baseline you could do that, maybe like i said take it 5 inches and then install and go from there...
