General Arctic tire

I'm looking at buying using tires and noticed the General Altimax Arctic aren't approved on the General website. I know people on this board use them but does everyone use a different size such as 225/50/17 rather than the OEM size? TIA

What do you mean by they aren't approved?

Regarding which size to use, were I in your shoes and had an Automatic TL (this is an assumption here), I would go with either 205/60 R16 or 215/55 R16 tires and a separate set of 16" winter wheels. Unfortunately there are no General Altimax Arctic 12 tires in any of the sizes which will fit a 3G TL.

Went to their website and shows up the tire does not fit for both manual and auto.

It isn't because it isn't approved, it's because they don't make the Altimax Arctic 12 in that size.

But they do.

Don't mean to double post but can't find the edit button.

I sorta just want to know what size people run on the General Arctic tire.

The General web site says that size doesn't exist.

If you look over in TireRack they don't list that size either.

Edit: This may just be an issue of the tire not existing YET, I believe the Arctic 12 is a pretty new tire.

I am not running those as my snow tires....but I am running 235/45/17 snows. I don't drive on packed snow that often and wanted to keep my wet/dry handling as close to normal as possible.

Perhaps load and speed ratings are at play.

Usually, for snow tyres, speed ratings are less important (for obvious reasons).

In theory a 97T XL should exceed our load/weight requirements. Agree on the speed rating being less than ideal...but few winter tires will.

235/45R17 Altimax
Great tires. I don't think 225 will help you much. Plus if you were to slide into something I'd rather have some of that extra rubber poking out.
