Function and Form Coilover Question

Hey hows it goin, im about to purchase function and form coilovers for my 08 tl on ebay pretty soon and was just wondering about the installation. I will be doing it my self however looking at the other threads on here i noticed that some people said there was a need for top hat change from the oem suspension, while some people said you can simply bolt them on. Therefore i was wondering if anyone can give a direct answer on the fitment of the f&f type1s and my 08 tl. Thanks

Mine were direct bolt on. I drive a 04 and got mine through eBay also. Type 1
Love it and get compliments on the slam everyday. They go very low you will like it.

For what it's worth, the comfort and quality of the F&F coilovers has been reviewed many times as less than adequate for most owners. Couldn't even tell you how many people I've seen sell their F&F's for a better quality coilover like Tein. If you just care about being able to go really low, then the F&F's will be fine. If you have any regard for comfort and build quality, then you should rethink your options. I guarantee you that the person selling these on ebay plans on upgrading to something nicer.

Anyway, to answer your question, the F&F's come with their own tophats. It's a direct bolt-on application.

Agree. Had HT spec (relabeled f+f) and hated them. Went with neuspeed supercup. Much better.

I dont know what people are complaining about with the coilovers. Imo, they're better for the money you pay for them compared to the $1k+ coilovers. Do you really need 32way adjustable suspension for daily driving? Do you really want a super stiff ride to feel every bump in the road? If you do, then dont get ff type 1s.

I've had my ff coilovers for about a year now. Have about 15k on them now, I do a lot of driving to work. They took a beating over winter with potholes and ice roads and etc. Still riding the same at all hieghts, lowered or raised up. Yea, i admit they are soft for my liking since im used to stiff suspension in my old cars but they are stiffer than stock but still soft enough that a baby can still sleep in the back, and yes i do have a car seat in my car from time to time.

So if you want "race car" suspension, buy some other expensive brand. If you want something where you can lower your car and still have a close to stock ride, get these. Just my 2 cents.

But yea, they are direct bolt on, they come completely assembled so no assembly required.

Some common complaints of the F&F's are:
-too stiff
-build quality isn't as nice as other brands
-unreliable shock valving (although the newer "HT-Spec" version of the F&F's had better valving than the original F&F's)
-parts prone to corrosion (saw a picture recently of someone selling a set of F&F's that had been through one winter and the gold threaded collar and perches were completely corroded and had turned grayish white. Other brands have anodized collars/perches or have a coating on them (ie. ISC N1). The F&F's are bare metal.)

I'm sure I can find more complaints if I search...

I disagree. The term, "you get what you pay for" applies here.

For those who want to dial in their ideal ride performance based on their every day driving habits, it's absolutely necessary.

Of course not. That's why other brands allow you to customize your spring rates while at the same time offer damping control. With F&F type 1's, you get what you get and that's what a lot of people don't like about them.

Sorry, not trying to single you out, walleyeman, but your post was pretty subjective and is outweighed by years of less than stellar reviews by owners of this brand. Ever wonder why HeelToe doesn't even offer their "HT-Spec" version of the F&F coilovers on their site anymore?

I will also agree with John I had the type 1's on my car for 10months, hard stiff ride, poor build quality, blew a rear shock like nothing, and if you live in winter areas the salt will eat away on your coilovers

and for anyone thinking of buying them I recommend going with tein or isc for the extra money it is completely worth it, believe me.

I dont think any roads can get worse then Hawaii. We have salt in the air and rain year around. Pot holes deep enough to break couple of my friends trans and oil pans.

Its up to you on this one, its your car.
I would have saved for other coilovers maybe after seeing LOTS of reviews, but my goal was for the LOWNESS so I went with F&F. If i had a aspec lip I would have gone with something else maybe. But if price difference is a big issue, then go with the cheaper one. Some people just cant drop 1k on coilovers and thats fine. You will be lower then any springs for sure. Good luck with that

Here's the corrosion I was talking about and this was only on my car for about 10months so only 1 full winter of light snow

I have F&F type 1, HT spec I believe and I like them, but only up front. I had ISC which were nice but didn't offer enough drop in the front but I still have them in the rear. I actually added some front preload to my F&F and love them, bought them used and have had no problems out of them. (knock on wood)
