Firestone dealer told me, today that....

Within this year they will be distributing Nitrogen!
So I asked how will this happen? He said they will evacuate my tires and the refill em with Nitrogen!
I found this interesting!!

CostCo has been doing that for a long time now. Firestone must be falling behind on their game.

I think it's more of a gimmick than being actually useful, though.

Had my truck and the TL filled with nitrogen for 6 months now and no problems yet.

They claim that since nitrogen is an inert gas, it doesn't promote corrosion of the rim or oxidation of the tires from within and since the molecules are supposed to be larger than oxygen, nitrogen does not leak out like regular air. Oh, last but not least, the tires are supposed to run cooler too (this is what I liked)!

What the heck... it only cost me $15 for each vehicle, spare tires included plus life time refills from Bid "O" tires and I've blown more money on crazier things!

What could it hurt, right???

Happy motoring!

Now where I live (Minnesota) We are always changing tire pressure because of the outside air temp. This is not supposed to be such an influence on Nitrogen ether. Also the tires don't heat up like CAHobbs said......

There was a good thread on Nitrogen in the Car Talk section of this forum that had a lot of positive and negative input.
