Question Fender Flushing | Offset vs Width question

Im in a little dilemma now and need to make sure this is true.

I plan to get 35mm offset all around on 20's. I was planning to get 20x8.5 in the front, but with the step lip config I am getting, they can only do 20x8. My concern is that the rim will not sit flush with the fender, but I could be wrong as the offset is what makes the rim sit flush and not the width correct? someone please comment and verify.

Both width and offset play a factor. 10mm = ~0.5" (0.4, actually). So, if your wheel is the same width as stock (X8), a 35 offset will make the wheel stick out about half an inch more than the stock wheel. A X8.5 w/ 35et would stick out about 0.75" more. I don't know how much room the wheels need to be moved out to be flush...you'll have to measure that one yourself.

Chill dog, with what you are saying.. should I get a 25mm offset in the front if I can only do x8? Then it will match the 8.5?

25 et won't fit...mid-upper 30's is the best you can do, and the mid (35-37) is on VERY few styles of rims...all depends on the design of the rims (how the spokes bend, their thickness, etc). If you're lowering, X8/35et might rub...just have to test fit and see. Does anyone else here have the wheels you're looking at?

No they sure dont. But acura101west has 8.5 on 35mm on the front and he had to roll his fenders and also cut out a part in the front in the wheel well. I plan to roll the fenders and shave off that piece also as a precaution before puttingh the wheels on. Now, they do offer an 8.5 without step lip, but my dream is to have step lip. Just out of the top of your head.. do you think this config will look off (not flush)? Or am I just being to picky?

20x8 35mm - Front
20x9.5 35mm - Rear

I just got clarification on this.. and if I want the front to sit like 8.5's 35mm I need to go with 29mm.

Quoted: "8 and 29et sits the same as 8.5 35et."

What do you guys think?

Are you getting these from a local shop? If they claim that will fit, then by all means let them try it...if they work, great, if not, they can fix it.

In theory, they will fit, but you might (probably will) need to do that altering you were talking about, especially if you go with a bigger than stock wheel/tire combo (as most do for some reason). At any rate, it should look flush (my X8.5/37 does).

Good luck. This is really trial and error. I would bet 20x8.5 35 offset will fit. But you will probably have to roll your fenders. You never know though. I would play it safe and go with 40 offset. I used 45 offset but it has a little room left.
