Everyones thoughts on offset

I have a 2002 Tl-S and I would like to upgrade to 19" wheels and tires. The two styles I like only come in a +40 offset. I have gotten opinions both for and against using this size for our car. Has anyone tried a wheel and tire combination using this offset? Any other thoughts?

What's the width of the wheel? 7" 7.5" 8"

+40 is pretty low.

the 2.5 is different - I am running 18x7.5 +43 offset w/ 225/40/18 and I have the eibach prokit- lowered about 1 inch and 2/10.
and Neokinetics (also a 2.5 )was running 18x8 with +45 offset and he had a bigger drop..

How about 17x7.5 with +48 offset with 215/45/17 tires? It's all good right? I'm thinking about lowering it later on also.

I have 17x8's on 235/45/17's, 45 offset, comptech springs, I rubbed in back until I cut the tabs off the bumper, and the front very slightly rubs in hard turns/bumps..
