EDFC Install

How much work is it to install the EDFC?
Are there wires you have to run to the coilovers (Tein SS)?
How and where did you put it in the cabin?

- Lots. Standard suspension install + disassebly of the front dash and side pillar to run all wiring.
- Yes
- Most folks put the controller in the top CD compartment (cubby)

If I install just the coilovers, do I have to remove the coilovers again if I want to add the EDFC later?

Ok, nice, but one more question.

For those of you who installed the EDFC, what did you do with the front strut brace. Is there a front strut brace for the non Type-S 5AT TLs?

I heard you have to remove it... what's the deal there?

yes you either have to remove the strut bar or , modify it... i used the accord top hats and only drilled 1 additional hole in the strut tower, and now i have a greddy strut bar.... fits perfectly

What was the hold up?
I put my Aspec in 2. I already bought the upper strut compenents so I won;t have to rebuilg the struts... what could take so long?

Remove suspension, drill 2 holes, install suspension...

That is what I was thinking. They told me that they were having trouble figuring out how to install the bar. In the beanning, the mechanic came out and told me that the bar is too short, about an inch to short. So, I showed him AcuraTein's car and Thread and then he went in the back and didnt come back for a long time. They said at the end that it took them a while to figure out how to install the parts, and then they had to drill the holes. They also had to run the wires for the edfc and make it a clean install. Man, and the total came out to $625 for the install on strut bar, coilovers, edfc, comptech rsb

thats not a horrible price.. not the best, but not bad.. especially if they did a really clean install on the EDFC. thats ALOT of work. honestly, probably more work then just doing the coilovers.

MaCaY... the comptech rsb does not come in contact with the rear shocks at all...

The EDFC is attached to the top of the Tein Shocks inside the car behind the back seat or in the engine conpartment...

The greddy bar would still fit if you didn't have the accord top hat, it will just have 1 less bolt on each side... it seemed a little scary to me.. i think that it connects by 2 bolts on each side.. when i did my coilover install i added the top hats, literally 1 drill hole on each side..

Hey drdamian,

Are you running Thermoblock spacers?

I noticed you had to use spacers to slightly raise the bar. It seems the Greddy bar rides crazy close to the engine cover. Thermoblock spacers actually raise the intake manifold 1/4 in, bringing the manifold in closer contact with the bar... creating that humming/vibration sound.

I'm planning on doing this install soon, and I'm just preparing for what I may need to do to get the Greddy bar in.

no i didn't use thermoblock spacers, and to be perfectly honest with you i have no idea what it is or what it does. i don't think the car has it on it already ( i did buy the car preowned, and it was perfectly stock at time of purchase). i put small spacers under the greddy bar and now i don't have any noise at all.. As of the past month i have been driving without the intake cover, and still the clearance is really close.

It's a 1/4 thick plastic gasket that is placed between the intake manifold and the head. It's supposed to isoalte heat from the intake manifold, thus keeping the air cooler as it enters th engine.

But... it raises the instale manifold 1/4".

Can you take a a picture of how close the manifold is to the bar and post it here...?

This is a critical issue that needs to be addressed for folks going this route.

Neither.
It affects "dampening" rate. It makes the "shocks" softer/stiffer.

here are a few pics that i took today.. i hope they help even though i don't have the intake cover on the car.. when i first installed everything i did not have the washers that you can see under the strut bar. I was getting a whining noise when i took my foot off the gas. I think it has to do with the fact that the engine was not able to torque properly. Here are the pics.. The washers are about 2-3mm thick.. The bolt in the pic i think is the main problem that makes the the intake so close.. I have not had any whining issues...

question: If you want to adjust dampening or height on tein ss (no edfc), do you have to remove the factory strut bar? If yes, then which strut bar applies force closest to stock that allows adjustment? (in order to keep from increasing understeer, and to not risk a cracked windsheild)

In order to adjust the height you will need to take the tires off and turn the perch stops. The edfc only controls the dampers. Without it you will have to go under the hood and just turn the screws on the top of the coilovers. To adjust the back you will have to remove the backseat. The only reason I got the edfc was bc I didn't want to take the backseat apart everytime I wanted to make adjustments. Imo for our cars, its worthless to get the ss's and not have an edfc. I can adjust on the fly any time I please

Yep I have put mine on a lift and you can not do it but with a lift you don't have to be in an awkward position

yeah, a lift would definetely be easier bc to raise and lower the car there are 2 screws that turn against each other and they are the stops for the springs.. there are no marking or specific stops, so your probably gonna have to use a tape measure.. i got my coilovers from another member on the site. They were already set up so all i did was install them..

had a quick question about the EDFC controller. I saw that there were two models of the EDFC controller, part no. EDKU1-10100 and EDKk05-10100. I was wondering if they are both compatible with the TL.
