I'm looking at doing either Tein S-tech or H&R race but people are saying I'll need to get struts with them. What's the point of buying struts and springs when I can just get coilovers for the same amount of money.

You dont need struts, but its reccomended because they could potentially fail due to the lowering springs. After getting coils, ive realised how much better it is being able to adjust the height. I must have taken my wheels off 20 times in a week. If you dont like your drop after getting springs, your stuck with it. Hell, i can slam my car for summer and ride 4x4 status in the winter

They aren't the same price. I just purchased Koni Yellows with H&R springs for $720 shipped. Tein SA coils are at least $870, but closer to $900. For me, the 1.4-1.5" drop with the springs should be adequate, and if I want to go lower I can adjust the shocks to give another .25" drop, which is more than enough to get rid of the wheel gap.

while a separate strut and spring setup would seem like the way to go.
I would highly recommend coilovers.
You have a better range of damping adjustment and ride height.

IMO, if your going to spend 700+, might as well save up some more and get coilovers. you wont regret it.

plus, you can get a better flushed look with coils

shocks, you guise.
we have shocks.

we dont have independent struts and springs.

and IT DEPENDS ON YOUR GOALS.
what the heck are your goals in life?
what do you want the product to do?

these are the questions you should be asking, when purchasing something.
the intent of a spring and shock combo will be different than the intent of a pure coilover system.
some are into performance
while others are PURELY into aesthetics.

What are your goals for the car?
do you want to be slammed with some crazy aggressive wheels?
do you care about budget?

I am into performance. I had bought brand new Koni yellow shocks for a steal! I think I got them for $350.
my buddy also gave me aspec springs for free.99

my setup is pretty good for performance but not so much in the look department.
I have the itch to buy BC coilovers to lower the car another inch.

I'm also getting a fairly aggressive set of wheels here soon.
18x9.5 +22
I dont want to be a 4x4 any more.

so, it all depends on your fucking goals!!!

I had no complaints about my Tein S-Tech springs, but I eventually got the itch to go lower. Save yourself a headache and money by getting coilovers the first time instead of going back and re-buying parts.

Go straight to coilovers unless your shocks are new. You can get a set of new Tein street basis coilovers for $665 Shipped and just reuse your oem top hats.

THMotorsports.com - They're local here in Chicago. I plan to buy a set of these soon through them.
