Need to? No...search. Plenty of discussion on this already.

Here's one to get you started:

Only time I would when buying new tires is if I was experiencing abnormal wear on the exisitng ones.

New tires, no. Suspension changes, yes.

Only if your car needs one. However, you should always have it checked when buying new tires just to be certain all is well. My '04 manual TL has never had an alignment but it has been checked three times and found to be excellent.

I was told that evrytime you replace tires, it is a must to have the aligment done, otherwise your wheels treads will tear unevenly and you will end up buying a new set of tires in mo time.

Changing tires does not change the geometry of the suspension ... so if your tire were wearing evenly before .. the new one will too.

Someone telling you that is doing a great sales job .. and you believed it.

Apparently you are one of those guys that have a degree/Masters in mechanics, No one has told me anything so you need to stop making accusations without knowing. I’m not here to argue with you or anyone else on the matter what I do know is that the alignment part is a safety issue. I understand that new tires wont change the car alignment at all but it will prevent uneven tire wear and it will improve gas mileage, moving forward all vehicles will eventually have worn tires so to the OP this is only a safety option at least in my book, I always get the car alignment every time i replace my wheels just to prevent any damages in my tires, maybe others dont do them, not sure but I'm speaking for myself here. hopefully you can make your on decision

Read the first line of post #8 in this thread . I don't have a degree .. just 50 years of experience with tires/suspension & cars .. including oval racing ..

That's not true. New tires won't change the alignment of the car. What will change the alignment is the wear on the suspension components.

So lets say you have tires on the car for 2 years, and wanna change them. Chances are that in those 2 years as you put miles on the car, suspension components get worn out or settle more and that may change the alignment. So when putting on new tires, may as well get an alignment to tighten it all up again.
So if you had new tires and an alignment done a month ago, and now you are going a different route with the tires, no alignment needs to be done.

I think it's a good idea, but I agree, it's probably not a must. Over time...driving over potholes and railroad tracks, you will throw off the alignment slightly. So spending the extra $100 after investing in $600 in tires makes sense to most.

Me, personally, I'm always messing with my suspension and whatnot so I have a 3 year alignment already paid for. My fiance...her 08 Accord, I lowered with H&R springs and her tires have been wearing totally evenly without an alignment. Not the norm, but every week or 2 I get under the car with a flashlight to look for any signs that she needs an alignment and have yet to find one...it's been 15 months that way.

take the tires you have now, slide your hand in and out (towards the car, then pull out) and front to back (following the circle)

if it isn't smooth in any of these directions, you'll need an alignment.

I was always told everytime you change your tires get an alignment...it's not that much money and it will give you peace of mind that everythings good. Or if you change any suspension.

Just my opinion...but I've been doing that for about 15 years now.

no need for an alignment when getting new tires...unless your old ones wore unevenly....
