Crack In My Wheel :(

Hey guys. I just found out the crack in my rim is getting bigger

i got new tires 3 months back and they said i shouldnt worry too much about them, but now the crack is getting bigger and deeper.

I called one repair business, but they do not think that it is repairable a all, hoping to find a business that can repair it.

What do you guys think? is a 1 in crack that dangerous? not leaking any air or anything... thanks.

Heres the pictures:

It's getting bigger and deeper!? I would take them off immediately... and put stockies on for now.

If it's a 2pc or 3pc wheel, then contact the manufacturer or wheel shop where they were purchased to get a new/replacement wheel barrel or wheel lip.

sold the stockies

ugh. i mean its not like its getting bigger by the dayyy - its taken 3 months to grow from barely noticeable to this.

i bought it and it had a small bend there, i think thats how the crack started.

and these rims are 700 new apiece - KILL ME.

so contact OZ for a new barrel - they're 3 piece. had to to buy the good rimss... ughhh

If the crack is getting bigger, I don't even want to guess what's going to happen when you hit a pothole. I wouldn't ride on that. Take it to some reputable shop and have it inspected / fixed ASAP.

Whoever the "they " is that told you a crack in a wheel shouldn't be worried about should be shot. Wheel integrity is critical to your safety and the safety of everyone around you.

And if it was the seller of the tires shame on them ... I'd never go back there. If it was the seller of the wheels .. you got hosed. Its also bent .

yea i hear you guys. been spending so much time looking for an OZ dealer around the US - but the only dealer is tirerack and this is a discontinued model.

anyone know where to buy wheel barrels or lips because its a 3 piece wheel?

and when i bought them, i knew it was bent, but i guess it was a pothole that made the crack where the bend was. ugh. im about to buy a new set of 4 different kindsss...

The face may be discontinued, but the barrel or lip could be shared/used by other models. Double check with tirerack. also, check out ebay.

^+1..... when it's a 3 piece, I'm pretty sure most manufacturers use the same outer RIM... you can defenitly get some one to just replace the outer RIM and you'll be good, instead of shelling 2k for new wheels....

update - i talked to someone from tirerack who wasnt so helpful, but called again and after long conversations, they have found an OZ outer rim that will fit, etc. The cost of the outer barrel is 170, plus shipping back to me is 30 and 100 for the repair - so 300 total. I just need to pay to ship it there, prob 30-40.

Found a solution, just need to cough up the cash and to find something to drive for 1.5-2 weeks. at least i know it can be repaired. thanks guys.

I was wondering this, but supposedly, OZ, since its an italian exotic racing company, only allows OZ parts to be sold and replaced by authorized retailers and the ONLY one in the us is... tirerack. and all repairs are done in their north bend, Indiana facility, not the one in my homestate of Delaware.

thats the price i pay...

It's at the bead so stop driving immediately.

They're aluminum, you can get the existing one repaired.

Getting it replaced like you said is a much better idea with the bend but don't forget, it's nothing special, just a piece of aluminum to a welder.

Yea all the welders said this type of job is impossible and plus itd look really bad when they cant refinish the chrome finish.

So i have to ship it to tire rack for 350$ and get the whole barrel replaced. but yea, thanks for the advice

They're likely scared because of the liability but replacing the whole barrel is a better idea anyway. Good point on the chrome, I couldn't tell if it was highly polished or chrome.

haha i guess - this is kinda making me wanna change up styles now... but too much money again. so 350 for rim repair plus 150 to get another 19in wheel to use for 2 weeks = 500 dollar mistake. greatttt

updateeee. been a week or two and finally got another wheel to use while i send the other in for repair.

just wanted to share how the spare looks. lol

19in from ebay, momo corse. decent looking, for a 19, it looks HUGE compared to my OZs. reallly temping to change to something that is polished like this new momo.

but anyway, thought it looked funny and wanted to share pictures lol.

update. they CANNOT fix the wheel. inner barrel is bent as well, face is in poor condition too. great - back to square one.

i went to try to find 3 more of the 19in spare momo i bought? and discotinued style as well. cant find ANY of them. so im stuck with this combination for awhile until i buy new wheels. awesome.

i dunno if i could sell the wheels now either...

yup it is. they were gonna replace it for me until... they said that the wheel face itself is damaged somehow. i dont know how, but theres no way to get another face like it - its pretty much not going to be made again.

and volks... are nice but ive never been attracted to them - especially since i dont have a drop.

was looking at the work gnosis but way too much money.

ill see eventually what i end up with. ill try to get a decent set as i work towards the works
