Continental Extreme Contact DWS06

Ok, got these installed yesterday for those looking to possibly purchase. First impression is not much difference between these and the Pilot Sport A/S 3's they are replacing. Ride just as stiff, maybe even more than the Pilots when new (because of heavier sidewalls than previous DWS or my aging suspension?) and handling just a bit softer than the Michelin's but actually more comfortable in the turns. No rain or snow to test them in yet, nor have I really pushed them on dry. Smooth & quiet on the interstate. Oh, and $70 rebate from Continental if you get them this month.

Really wanna get a set of these too. Ive had the DWS and I've loved them other than the slightly soft sidewall. Was going to go to the Pilot Sport A/S 3 but then saw they updated the DWS. Do you like them better than the Pilot's?

Too early to tell. I got them primarily because of winter handling (Michelin's were bad in the snow) so I will need a few months of winter driving to compare. So far I have not regretted the decision as there's not much of a handling difference in dry conditions (Pilots slightly better based on my driving habits).

Thanks. I was curious because "with the ride just as stiff" the 235's are 94W, but the 245/45 jumps to a 99Y load range, so they should be really stiff.

I happen to have them both on the lexus. Front set are sport A/S and rear are extreme contact. Pilot is better in dry and wet traction. Road noise they are both the same.

Hmm Interesting. I need them in 245/35ZR19 and they come in 93Y XL. Wonder how big of a difference that'll be. Reviews look better already in the 06 on Tire Rack so far though. I think I'll be doing 06 for my car soon (esp. w/70$ rebate and the price difference between the DWS06 and the michelin is absolutely ridiculous.

I've put about a 1000 miles on my 06's so far and they are pretty much just like the dws they replaced but stiffer and slightly better wet traction it seems. Still a bit of sidewall rollover in tight fast turns but I also think thats the car (even after replacing with aspec suspension). Overall seems good and for $600 I can't complain.

lack of sidewall stiffness was why i didn't get the original dws in the first place and now with these improved features, the dws06 will for sure be my next set of wheels. they are actually 3 lbs lighter than my current set too so that's a nice bonus. too bad i still have like 20k miles left on my current set...

Im kinda in the same boat. I have fresh old DWS in the front and bare ones in the back, so I'm thinking of replacing the back with the 06, though I usually like to keep them all the same tire...

The AS/3's suck in the winter. I had DWS's before, and I'll have DWS 06's next.

Any updates/feedback/reviews on these tires by those who have purchased them? I'm highly debating them when the time comes in a month or two.

3+ months with DWS06 tires and all is well. Wet, dry & snow handling fine for this car, even at higher speeds. Snow handling significantly better than A/S 3's. Ride is good, no flat spotting in the cold like I read about the old DWS tires. I've even noticed 1-2mpg better on the freeway vs my old Michelins (due to harder compound?). Too early to tell on wear after my first rotation, but nothing to indicate it won't meet expectations. We shall see.

That's certainly no surprise! The A/S 3's were grossly overrated for Winter traction.

FYI, Sears has a Labor Day special with 25% off a set of 4 tires. The DWS06 are $787 with tax vs $847 delivered from TireRack (255/40/18). Plus, you get another $25 off ($200 purchase) if you are a Sears Shop Your Way member.

You guys with the DWS06, how is the noise level as they wear? Any other comments/overall performance reviews?

^^^^^ Also, you can purchase a SEARS gift card through Cardcash.com and use the code "MOREBRADSOFF" for a total discount of 8%..... The discount code is only good through tomorrow, 9/1/16. This would save you another ~$75 off the total purchase: Tires/Installation/Balancing/Tax.

I love my set of dws06... they have everything i was looking for: low noise, great traction in dry, amazing traction in wet (though i can't really test that much in san diego), and stiff sidewalls. not to mention they saved me quite a bit of weight when i switched from the bridgestone re970as. i am at 10k miles with the tires, no complaints, 50% spirited driving

overall i wouldn't hesitate getting them again, especially if someone can get a deal while at it. i will never cheap out on tires, they are so important for performance and safety.

I've had these on my 4G TL for about a month and so far so good. I've yet to break traction pushing the SH-AWD through turns and road noise is minimal. No snow in FL but I've had no issues when driving in the rain (which is everyday during the summer).

I will say though that I find the sidewall to be pretty soft. These tires are much more "bouncy" than the Falkens they replaced (even keeping them at 40 psi cold). I swear at times it feels like my coilovers were exchanged for a springs only setup.

Also, of lesser importance...I've also found that these tires don't play well with tire dressing. It just doesn't stick! I've stopped trying because no matter the amount I'd put on (whether a lot or a little) it would look streaky after a day or two.

In the end though, I'm happy with the purchase and would buy them again.

i've played around with lots of tire stuff to get them to stick without slinging and the best one i've found so far is "no touch" tire spray. it's worked pretty well lately.

the problem isn't just with these tires though, my last set of bridgestone were even worse at keeping tire stuff on there...i think it's just the price to play with ultra high performance all season tires.

So I got 4 x 255/40/18 DWS06, life time balance and lifetime alignment ($189) for $898 out the door. Pretty good deal IMO The only bad part is they have to be shipped from the warehouse, so it'll be 3-5 days probably...

About 18k miles on my DWS06 now, and no noise or handling changes since new. I'm very happy with them so far. Another plus that I wasn't counting on... my gas mileage is better even without having to add extra PSI. Sidewalls are fine so not sure about the earlier comment of them being too soft. My earlier Michelin's were too stiff for the OEM suspension I have with the NE Ohio roads so I feel these are a better fit ride and handling-wise.

We've had great feedback from our customers on the DWS06 tires, though they did have a surprising amount of roadforce that needed to be balanced. We usually stick with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports now. They are quieter, have more grip, and balance better - though they're a bit more expensive.

Aspec wheels plus the Conti's installed. Love the ride so far, but it's really too early to give much of a review. I have a 6-hour road trip tomorrow, so I'll get a good feel for the highway. Sidewalls seem fine, even with "spirited driving/turns".

I have the Aspec suspension and I carry ~200 lbs of tools/equipment in my trunk. The clearance at the rear wheels is fine, but pretty tight. I only have about a finger's width between the top of the tire and the fender. Only time will tell if rubbing is going to be an issue on large bumps.

That tire size looks great on the wheels/car. Two questions...

1) How wide are A-spec wheels?

2) Do you know how much lower A-spec suspension is than stock TL-S?

1. These Aspecs are 8". There is a (pretty rare to find) 8.5" Aspec wheel. Some tire shops may hesitate to put a 255 on an 8" wheel, but they fit fine. Most specs say the minimum wheel width for 255 should be 8.5", but several of us are running 255s on an 8" wheel with never an issue.

2. I didn't measure, but most people say about 1/2" I believe.

Put about 800 highway miles on the DWS06s this weekend. The ride is great. The noise level is very good I'd say, but they are brand new tires, so that's to be expected. Handling is fine. Very happy with them!!!

Has anyone noticed increased road noise after rotating their DWS06 tires (criss cross rotation)? I just rotated for the first time (about10K miles, yeah, I know....) and the road noise on concrete has noticeably increased.

And on a related note, these tires started to get a bit noisy after about 8K miles which was disappointing... Ride and handling still great.

Currently have 29k on mine and noise is not too bad, Michelins I had last time were worse at this point. I rotate every 6k and don't cross on this car anymore. I have noticed over the years that crossing does create more noise & slight pulling/drifting when the tires are worn a bit, so I sacrifice some mileage but has been worth it. Still some inside wear, slight cupping (probably the source of your noise since you left them on the rear a little longer than normal?) but far less extreme than the Michelins. BMW and other higher-end handling mfg suggest not to cross rotate and my own experience so far has backed this up. I'd re-cross the fronts to the original sides if cupped and see if this lessens the road noise? Just a thought.

I stopped crossing tires in, geez, something like 1988 when I got my first car with factory Goodyear "Gatorbacks". Can't say I've ever noticed a reduction in mileage due to the lack of a left/right cross when rotating.

Absolutely zero cupping. Very even wear on all 4 tires. I've always criss crossed assymetric tread tires with no issues.

Another interesting note: The noise vanishes when on highway asphalt....

Same here. Every car I have owned in the past 25 years has had rotations done this way...outside of two sets of Symmetric tires. My wife's Terrain, the GMC dealer was only doing front-back rotations and I called them out on it since I can see the some odd patterns since I can tell they have never worn in the opposite direction. The GMC factory manual calls for criss-cross....I can't remember what the TL FSM calls out.
