Coils, coils and more coil's

So, we now have a pretty vast selection of available coilovers for our cars

Tein Basic $700~
Tein SS $900~
K-Sport Ground Control $1000~
Eibach Pro-Street $1000~
H & R Street Performance $1000~
Megan Street Series $1000~

I had the tein basics, and i loved them. great quality, great product... but they are also the least expensive of them all... Also, they are the only ones that do not provide dampening adjustment.

Has anybody had/have experience with the Megan or H&R coils on either the 3G TL or a similar car? I would LOVE some feedback.

It appears that the H&R and the Megan's come with new top hats, but thats just from the photograph, i could be wrong...

Anybody??

Pretty sure somebody on here was the "test car" for the H&R Coils. Don't remember who, but he's posted pics and given them good reviews.

Slammed_JDM was the first with the H&R's and he loves em. Alot of the guys are running SS's so those are I heard the Megan's are supposed to be awesome because of their pre-spring load something something, but I dont think anyone has em. K-Sport is probably too rough for every day driving. I didn't even know Eibach had an actual coilover setup for the 3G

im sure they are mostly the same

tein offers 16 dampening settings,
h&r and ksport have 32
i think eibach does also

i think kennedy said there was something about the Megans that was different from the tein's....

the tein basics were a good ride, not too bouncy....

basically, what i want is a lowered, tight, stiff ride with minimal bounce, good rebound, and a semi-smooth ride.. yea, so i want my cake and to eat it too!!

Ohhhh yeah, the main difference is that in the megan's the ride height is independent of spring preload

bumpppp

i would really like to get some feedback, preferably from people who have had atleast 2 of the choices and could give their opinions...

i like the teins, but would be willing to spend the couple extra $$ for the smoothest ride possible...

The Tein SS will allow you to go OE soft at a setting of about 3 or 4 of 16- 16= max stiff

I run them at 6 front 8 rear to keep the wife happy, and 8-10 for my fun runs
EDFC is on my list- as gen2 has no issues with the bar and fitment.
What I need is a ziner near me to run the wiring~

Note on upgrading shocks

I used to program the gps for direct route- least turns
Now I consider even a qiuck drive to the store as my personal autocross course.
The twisty back way home is now the way home, lane changes on the freeway are an exercise in car control and threading your way thru the dots without touching any etc.
Totally worth the investment in ride comfort and ride control and driving fun!

oh definitely. i had the basics on my 06 TL.. the difference was like night and day with handling, agility and cornering.... but the basics were also the cheapest option available, and so are the SS actually.. all the other brands are goign for $1k plus.. so i am wondering if they are actually that much better?

the SS will blow your mind. The basic are set at about 8-10 on the 16 scale of Tein
A bit past mid towards fun firm, Street racer setting ~imo~
Soften those things up and its unreal how the roads bumps you used you jump over, now they go thuuuud with little transferance to the cabin because the setting affects both dampening and rebound together.
It takes seconds to do it by hand with the adjuster tool- edfc not required- just fun~

You heard of kw variant 1, they appear to be a solid setup

I vote for tein ss with edfc just because we can never have too many gadgets and having the edfc is just pimpin

well for what it's worth, I'm placing my order tomorrow for Tein Basics. I think for the money, you get a quality product. The ability to adjust the dampers is a plus, but is it worth an extra $300? To me, not really. I bounced back and fourth between Tein and H&R and finally decided on Tein Basics.

I dont think the H&R coilovers allow you to adjust the dampening....and the EDFC option alone is the deal breaker for me =)

i believe it is electronic dampening force control, correct me if i am wrong, and its a module that allowed you to control the dampers without having to leave the cabin of your car, nifty little feature tein has put out.

the SS you can adjust the dampening (ride quality, soft or firm) either manually, or with the optional EDFC ($320).. the Basics are at a set ride qaulity, which was pretty comfortable IMO.. Chances are, if you dont isntall the EDFC, you probably wont be manually adjusting the dampening, because its a BITCH to get to those knobs.. it requires the removal of the back seats for the rear struts, and the removal of the OE struct tower brace for the front struts...

so if you want to maximize your SS capabilties, get the EDFC.. .. so basics ~$700.. SS w/ EDFC $1220~

I dont know about gen3 access,
On gen2 you can drill a small hole in the rear deck that a plastic plug/cover -like others found in the car- will fit right back into. The allen wrench special tool goes right in!
The gen2 fronts are right there to adjust no sweat, and the motors clear the OE bar.

There are people working on building a different strut bar for g3s that will allow room for the edfc motor.

I say the SS is worth the extra cash now- for the abilty to decide what YOU want your car to ride like, and set it- and be able to forget it, thats awesome.

plus the EDFC allows 3 preset settings.. so you can normal driving, 3+ people in the car, or track settings.... definitely a great buy, but i am still awaiting Marcus @ MrHeeltoe to provide us with the bar... other members insist you are fine cutting the bar or using the Accord bar, but i would rather wait for a fit and finish product from Marcus

He has the people in japan who specialize in this sort of thing on it- last word was they were making a prototype to send for fitment testing, then if changes needed or it was perfect...then production could begin. Supposed to include a brake master cyl brace that OE lacks.
Have someone push the brakes while you look at the firewall and you will understand, looks like your foot will come right thru there!!!

lol being a college student ready to go to the medical field or investment banking, I would settle with tein basics only cause i'm not THAT much of a zealot and fanatic.. 900 for TEIN SS for me isn't really worthy my money and would settle for basics for 650. With the time that has to come, i'll be trading my car in for a BMW.

SS are not springs, they are coils (springs/paired with shock/strut)

Coils come with a damper properlly matched for that spring and lowered ride height

i don't understand why Tein doesn't off an upper pillar mount for the coils! For that much money... you shouldn't have to use your OE Tophat.

Question.. Will the 2g TL - K-Sport Coilover fit 3g? I could not find any made specifically for 3g TL.

wek sos hell yeah didnt know anyone from on there was on here. you would need a camber kit depending on how low you are going to go with the coilovers.

I dont think you can get em with pillow ball mounts because of the suspension layout of the TL (double wishbone)

I may be wrong...

No, no pillowball mount Tein SS coilovers (SS-P)for the 3G.....

you need to use the OEM stock ones, or possibly the Honda Accord ones if you intended on using the Honda Accord 03+ Greddy Front Strut Bar for the EDFC

Sometimes, you'll see a SS-P Tein for the 3G on ebay, its a fraud.

It appears the Megan's and/or H&R's come with the mounts, but I am only assuming this from the pictures.

Yea, I figued.... I've seen some on different vehicles that came with them.. but not for Accords/TLs.

Thats a good idea.. Imma call Acura and see if they can get only the TopHat from the OE Struts. I really dont feel like compressing mine just for the Tops. Too much work involved.

YES, u will need to use OEM tophats from your TL.. Be sure to get a spring compressor also while u are at it..

ALSO, not a lot of people actually tell you this, BUT i found out the hard way... you will need to take the stock washer from the TL and put it on the Tein's as well as the collar.
