Coilovers or Lowering springs
Hey everyone..
I'm going back and forth on either installing Tein Street Basis coilovers or Eibach pro kit springs. I've read the pros and cons between both. What I'm looking for is a Drop of between 1" to 1.5" max. I'm putting on 18" Ron Jon Legacy 7 with 245/45/18. This is a daily driver which is in the snow belt, hence the reason I dont want to slam it. Ive had Eibach springs before and never had an issue. But I figure I would have more height options with coilovers.
1)My concern is that when you get Tein, how much of a drop are they out of the box? I've read that out of the box, they're already preset at 2" drop. Is that true? I figure they would be set up at same height as OEM dimension and you lower them to your desired height.
2) Also I've read some horror stories with coilovers (shops who dont know what they are doing, coil over failures etc), not so much with springs.
3)Price: A set of Eibach with shocks comes out to the same price as a set of Tein coilovers. So price is not that much of a difference.
So whats your say. Coilovers or Springs?

Coilovers all day. I've had absolutely no problems with my TEIN S-Tech springs but I want adjustability.
The TEIN Street Basis will lower your car anywhere from 0.9" to 2.5". The 2" thing you heard was incorrect.
Removing springs from your stock shocks is MUCH more dangerous than replacing the whole stock shock/spring combo with coilovers. And while it's not guaranteed to happen, there's a possibility of the lowering springs blowing your stock shocks.
TEIN SB coils are $689 from HeelToe and I know for a fact the Pro-Kit springs aren't that expensive.
Finally, I would steer clear of the Pro-Kit springs. They come from reputable company but they have a tendency to lower the rear of the car more than the front, giving the car a nasty reverse rake. Many members have H&R Sport Springs or TEIN H-Tech springs with no issues that give an even drop all around.

I have s tech on the stock shock, its a nice drop but i wanna go about an inch lower. but being that you live in the snow belt im assuming the mid west get coils. they will be worth it in the long run, i live in colorado where we see snow but not crazy amounts unless its a blizzard and if it is i dont drive. But get coils and cant go wrong with tein basics.

It's so worth it to go with coil overs. I had the s. techs and then went to tein coil overs. I then put the s. techs on my girls TL and now I just ordered tein coil overs for her too. Going with the springs, it only gives one height of a drop. After a while, you are gonna wanna go lower but can't. So just save up and get coil overs. I have the tein basic and they great. No issue so far and they ride great. I ordered my girl the same ones. Good luck with your decision.
