Coilovers help?

I'm looking at getting coilovers in the summer and was just looking for people's opinions on what they found that they like best. I've heard Tein SS, Megans, and more that I can't remember at the moment. I was thinking about a 2.5-3 inch drop and my price range is probably around $500. I could go to $600 but it would be a stretch. If you could post some pics if you have them too so I could kinda see what each setup looks like. Google images can be very deceiving. Cheers!

with that kind of budget, id say tru hart. they are right about $500 on ebay, and come with the top mounts while the cheap teins dont. most people seem to be satisfied with them.

2.5 to 3" drop.

$500-600?

Do you have decent health insurance for your spine replacement surgery that they will need to invent in the future?

alright my mistake, I checked back on the threads and 2.5-3 is a little much. closer to a 1.5-2 inch drop and I was quoted by a friend about prices, but I guess his info wasn't the most accurate. Regardless, I'm going to save a little longer and I'll say my actual budget is closer to $600-$750. Again any help is appreciated and my apologies for the confusion

lol facts of life. Looking at all the things you want to get for your car and then looking at the price tags kinda kills the excitement a bit

you can do springs!! that will drop the car 1-2 inches... and only cost about $200...
depending on how many miles your stock shocks have....you could drop your car for about $300 with installation.
but if you need new shocks, you'll have to buy them which would add to the cost.

I had a strict philosophy modding my car....
I would only mod my car if the stock OEM piece got broken or damaged.
that way, I would upgrade my car when the time came...

instead of looking to mod and spending monies on non-useful things

That's how I feel about some mods, I was looking to change my exhaust system, but I'm not gonna drop the cash on it until it rots out or I need a new one for some other reason. All mods (if I even end up doing any) are a couple months down the road at best so I have time to research and decide what I really wanna do. And maybe by then something will break so I'll have to mod it

With the assumption that OP is looking to put together a street car and still wants to retain ride quality:

My philosophy is slightly different.

Tein makes inexpensive coilovers that last long and will ride better than stock.

HOWEVER, you will need to choose the correct application and be realistic.

The SA is like $600 and is more comfortable than stock if you plan on around a 1" or maybe 1.5" drop at absolute maximum. Its simple, no complex adjustments or specs. Install properly, run a non-slammed height, and it'll work well.

A 1.5-2" drop is agressive AF. You will need a full body coilover for that. At which point, things get complicated. A setup's positive outcome is directly related to how much time and money and effort you spend getting it right. YOU will need to figure out travel, shock lengths, preload vs positions, etc.

"Bolt on and go" for a 2+ inch drop with the expectation of good ride quality is a myth, as you'll read from various threads here. You'll need to use some...if not ALL of your cunning.

There are no 2" drop springs that I'd recommend using unless you shorten the shocks, valve them accordingly, and use sky high spring rates. Also, you'll want to ask yourself "why the f&#k would I do this?"

Everyone tries to over-simplify it. But modding a suspension is similar to modding in other ways. Here is an example:

-Want a turbo kit but know nothing about cars? Buy a factory turbo'd car or buy a kit from a company like Greddy that has done all the R&D and will sell a complete kit. Expect like a 60HP gain and a big drop in MPG.

-Want way more power and efficiency? Learn about cars. Make a customized setup. Blow up your car. Repeat til you get it right. Buy a book titled 'how to open wallets wider than they can physically open'.

Same applies for suspensions. Want a mild drop and good ride quality? There's kits for that.

Want an agressive drop and good ride quality? Its a long road.
