you're going to have to ask yourself....

are you the type of person to keep changing ride height?
do you want the options of being adjustable?
this isnt something, we can give you advice on.
you're going to have to choose whether or not, you want to be able to change height and damping.

if changing the height and damping doesnt sound like you, get springs.
However, a lot of people beginning to mod, figure out that coil overs are the better deal.
because you can change your set up at a minutes notice...

ask yourself, what are your goals for the car.

please visit and browse these two vendors.

For a 2 inch drop on springs, H&R race springs will get you there. Though I've heard the ride can be kind of harsh. Also, you're taking a gamble on your stock shocks. Tein S-Techs are a better ride (and made to go along with your stock shocks). I believe they're in the neighborhood of 2 inches as well...maybe just a little less.

Coilovers offer adjustability on ride height and the majority also offer adjustabilty on damping (how soft/stiff the suspension rides). Tein, ISC, BC, HT Spec are all good brands.

Summary:

Springs are more affordable and go with the stock shocks. What you see is what you get as far as ride height. Though you can always pair them eventually with adjustable shocks like Koni Yellows

Coilovers are more expensive, but you can adjust your ride height and/or damping at your leisure.

^also, as these cars age, the stock shocks might or might not give in..

then you're stuck doing the install twice because the stock shocks might or might not fail.

^^which is exactly why I got scared off getting springs. Better off doing it right the first time - even though it may take you longer to save up.

Any number of different searches will bring a multitude of results here that all point back to the same thing: Save for coils, do it right the first time, save money in the end.

Personal experience: Installed Tein S Techs, loved the drop, hated the ride, 3 weeks later installed Tein Street Advance.

Tein Street Advance Coilovers are great. I went in literally thinking I was going to try them and then they would be too harsh and sell them, but I'm still riding on them and love them. Just buy a set that you can adjust the dampening and I think you will like them.

Al, Justin is right....if you want to adjust from time to time, you want coil overs.

I've got the H&R SPORTS Springs, not the race springs. You can go to "My Garage" and see what the drop looks like.

Springs will reduce the longevity of the stock shocks. So if you already have 50-60k on the shocks, then putting springs on them really isn't going to help their lifespan and you're going to end up replacing them sooner then later.

If you don't care about one set ride height, then just get Koni Yellow shocks (on sale for another few days) and either H&R Sports or TEIN S.Tech springs.

If you do want the ability to raise and lower your car, say for winter and summer, then you should really look at coilovers. Take a look at our ISC coilovers. They can lower the car from 1-3.5", have 32 levels of damping adjustment and come with aluminum upper mounts (very rare for TL coilovers, especially under 1K).

If you're looking for something on the less expensive side, take a look at the TEIN Street Basis. TEIN does a great job at providing performance without sacrificing comfort and providing comfort without sacrificing performance.

here are my 2 cents. Any spring that has an uncompressed length of 7.5 inches, it will be rough over bumps. It will handle good in corners and respond faster but over bumps it will be harsh. And added damping or less damping like that which comes on the SA, will not affect the limited travel from a short spring. So be ready for that!

notice that even though the eibach is shorter than the Aspec, it has more windings or a higher spring rate than an Aspec but it still gives you some room to recover from a jagged road or uneven surfaces without beating your car to pieces.

If they only made a coilover system with a Spring like that of an Eibach, then I would be interested. Now, Eibach does make a coilover for this car but they are like $1,700. And I am not even sure how long that spring is.. But How long is the uncompressed length of BC springs? The length will tell you a lot about how it will ride..

From left to right, Tein 12kg, Eibach prokit and Aspec.

I just found a cool little tool that will let you select your spring length and spring rate too, I think. In order to achieve ride height adjustment and a decent ride, I want to stay away from a 12kg 7.5" spring like TEIN. I now have KONI and Eibach prokit with no adjustment capability. The prokit springs ride almost just like OEM. But better than Aspec. However they don't handle in corners as well as TEIN. So, to get more of a happy-medium, I think a 10" spring with about a 350 spring rate would be a good compromise. The eibach pro-kit springs have a front rate of "372 to infinity" and the rear rate is only 131 to 217(according to eibach). So the rear is pretty soft but the front is OK. If I install a threaded SLEEVE on the KONI shock, you cannot use the original perch which is beveled to match the oem spring, And most importantly, the perch that comes with koni's are like the oem.. that is, the bottom of the spring and the perch sits LOWER than the little RING that that holds the perch. So, if you want to put a sleeve on the Koni, then you MUST get a shorter spring (if you want to lower it) because the new sleeve will not go below the little RING.. and it will not allow the new spring to sit down as low on the KONI. This is why fine tuning of the spring is crucial. Because if you want to make your Koni adjustable and lower the car and keep a decent ride, then you need to reduce the length of the spring because the new sleeve will raise the bottom of the spring. So you have to use a shorter spring.. However, we don’t need a super short spring like the TEINS. I think a 10 inch spring will work nicely for as low as I want to go, and still provide a good ride with adjustability. Ground Control - Eibach 2.5" ID ERS Spring By the way, a good spring rate for a TL should mirror the weight distribution. Like 60/40, I think.. haha
