Coilover questions...
Coilover questions...
Hey guys, never had "coilovers" before, and i'm just wondering:
1.) How easy is it to adjust the height?
2.) If i want to adjust it, do i have to do more steps or just take that little tool it comes with and start adjusting?
3.) I'm not a fast driver at all, but i can't have that annoying gap on the wheel and fender. + i like how a car looks lowered (everycar should be lowered, IMO)
4.) I'm planning on lowering it about 1.5" - 2" (max) What brand would you guys suggest - again, it's not for racing, just aesthetics.
I apologize for the noob/rookie question, i'm in the market for "coilovers" - not springs.
TIA

TEIN Basics are firmer than stock but not stiff and are a great daily driver setup. You can adjust ride height by moving the perch.

Take a look at page 5 and also 7 and 8 for further diagrams. In order to lower the car further you loosen the perches and drop the perches to lower the vehicle. TEIN gives you a starting point for their recommended drop.
If you need this kit shoot us a PM and we will get you a quote.

1) It's easy to adjust height using the spanner wrenches provide, just jack up the car, remove the wheel and begin adjust the two perches up or down
2) Since all the weight is on the car, raising the car may be a little difficult, I suggest renting a spring compressor to make the job easier. after any raising or lowering of a car whether it be coilovers or springs will require an alighment due to the geometry of the car being altered
3 & 4) I'm on H&R's street performance coilovers and I do understand that annoying gap, now its gone and I love it, I'm lowered roughly 2" in the front with a tight 1 finger front and 1.75" with a loose 1 finger in the rear. But I will be going lower in the near future. I have so much more room to work with.
Hope the search goes smoothly!

If you want to constantly adjust your ride height, don't get Konis. BUT if you like to adjust your dampening, consider them. I can take corners much faster after my Koni install.
Adjusting perches on them is a huge PITA though. I have a tight 1 finger gap in the rear and a loose 1 finger gap in the front. Yeah I know... will get that fixed in the spring time.
Keep in mind... with the kind of drop you're looking at, you will probably need a rear camber kit. I didn't think I would but after my alignment, my rear camber was -2.2!

My input:
1- Not hard at all compared to installing in the first place. Adjustments less than 1/2" can be done with sus in the car one wheel at a time. 1/2"-3/4" you need both wheels off the ground, left/right, or it gets really hard to do. More than that and it gets pretty involved, and sometimes its easier just to take the sus out to adjust.
2- You'd need that tool, and a hammer to whack the tool with for tightening and losening.
3- Is there a question here? If you are asking if Basics/SS will get rid of the gap, they will, and they will do so without destroying ride.
4- Tein is my most popular brand. We have a lot of options (http://www.heeltoeauto.com/home.php?cat=3593) But we come back to Tein time and time again for quality/performance/drivability/cost etc. They have a really good package. You can get them rebuilt later too, they are really LONG TERM suspension parts!

You need a quantity of 2 to do the rear. Is your front camber off? If so how much?

As Josh mentioned, there are 2 arms per side, 4 arms total, and they come completely disassembled.
