Can Speedometer be Reprogrammed?
Has anyone here had their speedometer reprogrammed to compensate for different wheel and tire sizes? I'm not really worried about what my speedometer says...If I'm going 55 instead of 60...that doesn't bother me.
The problem is that I've heard that more than a percent or two and your computer controlled functions get confused. Transmission, anti-lock brakes, traction control...
Personally I like a larger sidewall on a tire with a modest suspension drop to fill the wheel wells and not scrape the ground too much. The 225/55/17's I had on my Chrysler 300M were a great size tire. I don't like the rubber bands you have to put on some of the big wheels out there.
Persoanl opinion aside...does anyone know the facts? Can our speedometers be recalibrated?
