Also, do you mean 245/45 or 245/35 (which is what the OEM tires are)

some people had mentioned that they replaced their el 42's with toyo 245's instead of 235's for rim protection etc... another had mentioned that the 245 filled the wheel wells better and looked better... i was just curious if anyone who had replaced their tires with the toyos 245's could post some pics... there seemed to be some mixed thoughts... some said the difference was not noticable between 235 and 245 and others said there was a slight difference... any pics of some side shots (not tread) of the toyo proxes 245/45/17 on stock rims would be greatly appreciated... sorry if any confusion

I'll like to see photos of any 245/45/17 I'd like to see how they look. I do know that some brands can run smaller or lager, again depending on the brand.
Thanks!

the first number is tire size 245 the second number is a % othe first number in side wall size like 35, so 35% of the 245 is side wall and the third number is the wheel size it will fit . so it dose not matter who makes the tire , the numbers speak . so like 245/35/17
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this line is 245 from one lip of the rim to the other to the other lip , and 35 % of this line is sidwall. and 17 is the hole

I'd stay away from the 245/35/17 unless you want a non-compliant ride with a super low sidewall.
I prefer the 245/40 or 245/45/17. It may be worth noting that tire manufactures tires sizes vary, example, Costco had 2 different 215/60/16 's side by side, and one tire stood about 1" high and looked to be about 1/2" wider.
Again, you could replace your existing tires, with the exact size tire from another manufacture and that tire could be wider, smaller, taller or shorter.

if you stand tire next to tire of two brand names and one looks taller , dont forget about the tread depth , that might make a differance . if you have 245/40/17 and 235/45/17 (same brand) on the same width of rim say 8 inches in width the rim will pull the tire to the 8 inch width . so the two tires will have the same riide heigth , do the math , or just ask the tire guy. just my expireance with tires in the past (in the 80's with mini trucking 195/50/15) another time folks , good luck!

I disagree, the 245/40/17 hieght is 24.7" and the 235/45/17 height is 25.3" that's a bit more than the same. The 245/40 will look much shorter. On the other hand a 245/45/17 is 25.7.

mike you are right , if you take the tire side by side, but put it on the same rim 17 inch x 8 inch and then measure it wont be much differance. 40% side wall vs. 45% side wall stretched across a 8 inch wide rim very min. i'm sure you get the math thing i,m talking about its close but not exact. but you can play with the numbers and get ride heigth down to the tenths of an inch as you figured out . number game is all I'm saying, if the right 245/series?/17 you can get almost the same ride height as 235/series?/17
by the way bro I have an 2003 anthracite type S with a OEM ground kit, tinted and trying for a super charger! Remote start and remote headlamps ,locks evreything is remote! Best color Anthracite!!!!!!!!!

Jay,
I had an 2003 prior to the 04 TL, I love both cars, enjoy your ride and thanks for the response. I think I'm going with the 245/40/17 Potenza 750's from Costso; I'll take a look at the Toyo's before ordering though.
