Brand new kit from Tein coming soon; Street Flex!

We had the pleasure of being a test TSX for Tein's new Street Flex kit, due to arrive in the US at the end of March. We've been told this kit will be available for the 04-08 TL as well.

What's the Street Flex? Take a Street Advance kit, add full length height adjustment, firm up the springs, and there you have it. Those of you who were longing for the FLEX but either didn't want the harshness of a performance suspension, or to pay $1600 for it, rejoice.

The Street Flex is a nearly perfect street suspension for daily use, flexible ride height setting allowing lower than average heights, and a lower cost. Of course, those of you struggling with the quality of lesser kits will have little to fear given Tein's long track record of being reliable even after 100,000 miles of use (we have one customer who got over 200,000 miles out of their TSX Super Streets!).

To go along with this kit there is a new GPS enabled EDFC unit. This unit uses GPS to actively adjust the firmness of your ride based on your speed.

There is an introductory offer we will be posting within the next few days, giving you an extra discount for pre-ordering the kit. So you are not in the dark we will provide some photos of our pre-production prototype off our TSX.

So compared to the Tein Street Advance, this is compatible with the GPS EDFC and has firmer springs?

The other additions to this kit will be:

*Pillow upper mounts included
*Full length height adjustment (where the bottom bracket thread on and you have more height change flexibility.

Also note, the EDFC will be backwards compatible with older systems like the SS, Basic, Street Advance and Street Basis. And, it has WIRELESS communication to the motors making install A LOT easier.

been emailing with Tein (which is very responsive), and they said that the EDFC Active won't be available until early April even though they are taking pre-orders now...but I'll wait to see what Marcus offers first of course. I'm pretty excited for this kit so hopefully the next few months go by fast, but at least it gives me time to find a used RV-6 (or similar) tower bar!

This is the price for only the EDFC kit...I didn't have any interest in the coilover kit so I didn't ask about that

Auto-x is usually low speed, as low as 20mph in some corners. Track speeds are higher but there are plenty where you won't break 70mph in a TL. You don't want firmness changing with speed on the track. On the street it's a nice option to add a little stability at high speeds and comfort in parking lots and low speed areas that likely contain bumps. I would be interested in something like that for the street but to retain my cars handling balance they would need a very stiff rear spring which wouldnt be practical for 99% of their customers. It would be especially nice if it added a little more front stiffness than rear at high speeds for increased stability.

A question for Marcus, do these retain full suspension travel? Can I use my current springs with this setup, do you sell it without springs?

This kit will be similar in case length/overall length to the standard Flex which is an overall shorter unit. It will be shorter stroke than stock mostly because it is lowering the car. However the rear stroke is extended as compared to the standard Flex which is really more of a performance kit than a street one.

The Flex uses straight springs with a specific upper mount, and the Street Flex is similar. Standard OEM replacement springs are not compatible.

I'm not so sure the firmness changing with speed is such a negative on the track...I can see the benefit of having different settings for high and low speed corners...

Having had already purchased and installed my Tein Street Advance coils i too am only interested in the new wireless GPS EDFC unit... ESPECIALLY if the thing is wireless!! thats one of the main things keeping me from buying the current unit (dreading the wiring install) .. However, does this new EDFC give you the same option to have pre-set manual adjustment settings while still giving you the option to turn off or on the Auto-adjusting GPS feature? Any info on that is greatly appreciated!

check the video link up above and also the tein website...lots of info on it. you can also email tein they are very responsive. the active unit looks pretty amazing IMO, i believe there are options to pre-set the settings if you don't want them going on the fly. or you can just not purchase the GPS add on and set up your kit as needed. there's also some info on tein on facebook, as you can see i've been stalking them haha

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but this coilover was not on the list of coilovers to be released by TEIN. I'm not sure this will be out anytime soon. Maybe Marcus has some other info that I don't have though.

Well if they have it for the TSX I'm sure it's coming to the TL, as Marcus stated. "Coming soon".

Yeah they do.

Tein's site says $1350 but it may vary depending on application. If our vendors really do get them, I see even better pricing

NOOB here chiming in with a random question. Will the EDFC work with the stock tower bar or will it need to be removed and/or aftermarket compatible one installed. Never did much research on the EDFC, as I could never afford good suspension.....just springs. Thanks for any info as always.
