Bit the bullet...

After reading all the threads on here about the A-Spec suspension,I ordered a kit from AofE yesterday(5AT kit). I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but I'm still a bit timid to attempt the install myself, plus I'm not a young man anymore..:-( .There really aren't any "performance" shops in my area, and my dealer is almost 2 hrs away. Could someone send me a fairly detailed install procedure? I'm sure there are some with the kit,but they might be a bit vague in their generalizations. I'm located in SW lower Mich if anyone knows of a good reputable shop close to me in case I bail. I won't get the kit for at least a week or more so I've got time to digest any info anyone can give me. Thanks in advance. TomC.

Tom,
the suspension kit will come with detailed instructions. You don't have to go to a specialty auto shop, you can go to brake shops (eg. Midas) or autobody shops to get it installed.

Actually my A-Spec suspension kit DID NOT come with any instructions whatsoever.
Also ordered it from Acura of Escondido.

I'm 40 and did it myself. It's really not that tough. The toughest part is removing your back seat. I'd certainly would not pay a brake shop to do the install as they'd probably not give a rip about the interior of your car.

I think a brake shop would be the last resort as well. Thanks mptlptr for the pm. I'll do some more thinking about doing it myself. Thanks for the replies guys.

At least tackle the front suspension and see how it goes. If I remember right it is only about 5-7 bolts that need to be removed. If you are feeling confident then go ahead and do the rear. With the Helm's instructions it will probably take no longer than :45 per side on the front corners.

I brought mine to Midas and they did a very good job. I'm very paranoid about my car, that's why I removed the seats myself. That, and I had to install my sub, so it was good timing I guess.
As far as the shop not giving a rat's ass about the interior, I believe that many of them (including Acura) do not.
In any event, I saved a couple of hundred going to the brake shop rather than the Acura dealership. I know, I could've save 100% if I did it myself, but I didn't have the tools.

That's odd. Scott sent me instructions with mine. It's the same as the one on the DIY section.

You just proved my point. You took the seat out yourself. So why not finish the job. Taking the back seat and rear deck off are the toughest part of the entire suspension job.

Like I said, I didn't have the torque wrench and jack stands. Weather was also a factor. It was really cold last month. I figured $150 was not worth all that hassel.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club! I would also recommend a DIY. Scott included the instructions with my set up, but I also printed them from the 3G Garage, just in case...very detailed and clear. Also, there is no need to remove the rear deck...you can access the bolts on the top of the rear coilovers via the holes in the frame.
