Top contenders are as follows (in no particular order):
FWIW, I had the Pirelli's on my wife's former GTI and they were awesome; I'm putting them on my TL as soon as the current set of rubber wears out.
- CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06
- MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3+
- MICHELIN PREMIER A/S
- PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS

General G-Max AS-05's! Put them on just last week. The tires I've been waiting for! Take it from this old timer here who's owned an '04 Sport (the unofficial Type-S for "04/5/6) since brand new, 13½ years. You won't do better! Check the reviews for yourself, and don't let their low price fool you.

Check the gmail inbox picture I have posted here. That was a response from Continental. The DW is going away. I would assume that includes DWS.
