I need some suggestions on what tire brand and size is good for my car, the stock tires sucks ass when it comes to grip..

Two of the most popular tires for the TL have been the Bridgestone Pole Position RE960 AS and the Yokohama ADVAN S4. These are the two top rated ultra high performance all season tires on tirerack.

Personally, I have the Yokohama S4s on my TL. MUCH better grip and performance. Quieter than the OEM Michelins too. However, I can certainly tell the sidewalls are stiffer as the ride is firmer. The trade off is well worth it though IMHO.

Search threads for the Goodyear F1 as well. There are several members that have it and love it. It is a summer tire, so no good in snowy conditions. Rates very high in it's class with over 18mm Miles from survey participants.

Somewhat related, GY has recently released an All Season version of the F1. From what I've found, it might be a very good tire as well.

I put the BS 960 Pole Positions on our '02 TL-S not long ago and so far they are awesome tires. Best rated tire in it's class, just ahead of the Yoko Advan S.4.

Also consider "up sizing". There is a very long thread on putting 255/40R17's on. It is somewhat controversial in that the size is normally not recommended for the TL-S rim size. But, several 'ziner's have compromised and gone 245 instead.

Above suggestions are perfect, but you had better break it down as to what type of tire you're looking to buy. A summer only tire, lots of grip, but poor longevity, or an all season tire, no as much grip, but longer life, and can be used in winter weather?

The BS Pole Position R050A is a great summer tire, with fantastic grip, exceptionally wide tread (245-9.2"), but a short life with only 140 rating ($145).

The GY Eagle F1, also a summer tire, in a 245 has only a 8.1" tread width, and wear rating of 280 ($191).

The all season S.4 in 245, has a 8.6 tread width, 400 rating ($184).

So, the best tire for the TL-S is very dependant on the type of driving you do, and if you want grip and don't care about the longevity, buy the R050A.

I'm on my 3rd set of Toyo T1-S on the raer of one of our cars and have only managed to get 14,000 & 16,000 miles out of the rear tires with a 280 wear rating. I'm not hard on the car, but the acceleration (without wheel spin) just wears the soft rubber down very quickly.

In that case, look at the Yokohama Advan S.4 in 245/45-17. Have them on the TL, great tire if you want to spend the bucks!

I got the YOKO Advans on my car a few months ago. I have yet to drive in snow with them, but dry and wet handling and grip are fantastic and the ratings for snow are very high. Comfortable ride, quiet. I like 'em!

Some other members also swear by the Michelin Pilot A/S (not the same as stock MXM4s) or the Pirelli P-Zero Neros.

if i were you i would get toyo proxes 4. i just don't have any money for 'em right now. search google and compare yokohama advan and toyo proxes 4 and see which one have better rating.

I know you want A/S tires, but I've got Michelin Pilot Sport PS-2's....they are the best tires I've ever had on a car.

I had the dealer remove the POS MXM4's before taking delivery on my '07, and replaced them with Michelin Pilot A/S's, which I also had on my '05 TL 6MT.
No regrets 6K miles later. I highly recommend them. I have had them for over 100K miles on my last 2 Acuras, and I am confident in my recommendation.
Some people find them costly, I find them worth the money.

For a summer tire, the 255/40/14 BFG G-force KDW has amazing grip in the Z rated version and only $180 a tire. They're so noisy it sounds like you're driving a 4X4. I find myself purposely driving a little harder around corners than normal to wear them out so I can get something else. Quieter on the freeway than stock for some reason.

Take a good hard look at the new Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons. They just came out in July and I've never seen a rim protector protrude like these. They're an all new technology based on the original Eagle F1's. Got quoted $139 each for 235/45/17's on the phone from the corporate office of http://www.Mavistire.com mounted, balanced and installed at one of their stores. $12.50 extra each for a roadhazard warranty.

420 AA A rating.

Mine are supposed to be installed tomorrow. I'll be reporting back soon with an evaluation.

I can't wait to wear out the stock MXM4's. I'd go with the F1 Summer, but I don't want to deal with the increased wear; but I *do* love the Super-Agressive F1 tread pattern.

That leaves performance all seasons. What I've read on the new F1 AS looks good, but lacking add'l information, it'll be BS 960 AS.

I have a question..if i get summer tires, how do I have to put them on and back off for winter? does a mechanic do all of this?

Most folks set up their summer and winter tires on two sets of rims.

If you've got a jack and stands you swap 'em yourself. If not, yeah, your local mech can do it for you.

Darn right I do, but it sometimes gets chilly here in SoCal - often doesn't even reach 70 degrees in January.

As Bearcat says, two sets of rims & tires. It depends on your weather in NoVA-- get any snow or much rain? If the answer is "yes," you should pay for the extra wheel/snow tire set. If no snow, then All Season tires will be fine (BS Potenza 960, etc.).

If you're looking for good UHP A/S tires, but don't want to drop a load on 'em, I agree w/ one of the posters... give the Toyo Proxes 4's a shot. I'd also look at Falken Ziex 512's (or 912's I believe might be the "newer" model). They track very well, give a sporty but comfortable ride, and their treadwear ratings are good. Check out www.edgeracing.com or www.discounttiredirect.com for some pricing... I've used them both on various rides w/ good results.

Interesting... I can say from personal experience that I've been able to get ~40k out of the 1st set of 512's I've had, and I'm currently at 25k on another with good tread left... and I'm not exactly a grandpa behind the wheel...

Where in VA are you? You might consider A/S tires. I've got Yoko 430A's though I haven't tested them in snow yet.

If you have the Michelin Pilot HX MXM 4 I agree. But look at the ratings of this

tire? Why is the dry and wet traction rated SO HIGH? I think they are below

average and have read MANY people who hate them. I can't take corners

as fast as possible with these tires, they feel like shit.

AND if you added tires from the UHP All Season class, the MXM4 would fall even further.

IIRC, every tire recommended in this thread rates higher than the OEM MXM4.

OOPS! Looks like you might be talking about the 85 Rating in Consumer Reports. In which case it's pretty clear, Consumer Reports has their head up thier collective ass on this one.

They don't exactly rate Wet and Dry "Traction" either, rather Wet and Dry "Braking". So the tests and/or methods may be part of the reason.

I agree, I am very happy with a set of these I'm riding on right now! I also highly recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Both of these tires are excellent, and alot cheaper than Michelins.

I have the Yokohama Advan S.4.'s on my car, and have never had a set of tires that could corner harder, wet or dry. I have pushed the car through some rediculous turns and never heard a single sound out of them. I think these tires and the Bridgestone Pole Positoins (and now the new Goodyear F1's) are about as good a tire as your can get for year-round driving on the TL. Can't go wrong with any of the three.
As I've said in some previous posts, I have yet to drive in snow or ice with these, but the snow ratings are really high so I expect them to get me through the Chicago winter just fine.

I have been a vocal fan of the Michelin Pilot A/S's, and have used them for several years. HOWEVER:
After having spent 2 days this week at the Acura High Performance driving course at MidOhio raceway(more on that subject later) running Kumho tires, I will opt for them next time. They are durable and quiet, and inexpensive.
