bad snow traction

im not sure if this is normal or not....anywho we got snow yestarday about 3cm or so...i went down a hill and when i tried to go back up the hill it would just keep slippin sliding side to side it wasnt making forward....i went down the hill planted the tires on a manhole and gave it more than needed gas and it slowly went up the hill, with traction control flashing on and off....im running pirelli's 235/40/18s
i saw a corolla make it up without any difficulty

is it cuz my tires are low profile or jus shitty tires?
im not sure if this is normal since we dont get much snow here but im sure if i had my integra it wouldnt cause as much trouble.

Thanks

FWD has aweful issues with driving uphills in snow. But tires would be the keys. I mean SNOW tires would be helpful.

Low profile? Car Design?

The Corolla was probably running 195s and you are running 235s. The wider the tire (generally) the worse it is in the snow.

Also, these Pirellis...are they summer tires? If so, that is your problem. Snow tires definitely can help the issue.

Ravi,

It is definately the tire and width of the tire. Plus you might want to try and start with 2nd gear b/c our car has too much power in first if you are not careful and step on too much gas. The corrolla must be running 185/195 so that is a big difference compare to our 235 tire width. The thinner the tire the better traction in snow. Hope that helps bud!!!! And yes we did get alot of snow here in Vancouver the past few days!!!!

Turn the VSA off problem solved! I had no problems in the snow at all. Pulled out of the garage turned off the VSA and went up the steep hill out of my neighborhood with no problems whats so ever. VSA is not intended for use in the snow. It will inhibit your ability to control the vehicle.

Not true. I have always had FWD or AWD cars. I had a '98 VW Golf GTI VR6 slammed on 17's with a wide ass tire. We got a really bad snow storm and I left work early before it got worse. Only problem was my trip was full of obsticles hills non driving ass people etc. I was going up hills and around people at a safe speed with no problems. I was going up very steep hills passing cars stuck that even had chains on their tires. Its all about lower gears light gas and knowing how to drive in it. I am by no means excellent driving in the snow but I can hold my own and make it home safely with no problems.

I would rather have FWD over a RWD vehicle any day of the week.

I do second the snow tires Nokians will take you anywhere you want to go with little effort.
