Is it that bad to have a staggered setup??
So I found a nice set of 19" Volks GT-C rims w/ Michelin tires for $1650, which is one hell of a deal. However, they are staggered (front is 19x8.5 and rears are 19x9.5).
I've done some searching about having a staggered setup on a FWD car, and many people discourage it. It seems that most people say it's because it'll decrease performance, and there might be some safety issues.
I don't plan to race my car (maybe for fun on the freeway or with friends), but mainly I want my car to look nice.
I'm on stock rims right now, so I'm almost desperate for some nice rims. I'm willing to spend $1500-$2000 for rims, which means I won't be able to buy a new set of Volks. What other companies can I look at for that price range???
Thanks a lot!

There performance drawbacks are very minimal...
I consider the 2 main drawbacks are:
1) Poser look. Staggered is for RWD, where you're increasing teh traction of the rear with a wider tire.
2) Can't rotate your wheels, (assuming your tires are directional... most performance tires are). You'll either have to drive the same wheels until they go bad (usually cutting the life in 1/2 of the tire), or pay $150 or so to have your tires broken down and put on the other side.
That's a good deal, I'd consider it too though... but I'll never do staggered, unless I trae for a new G35.

Agreed 100%. Personally staggered setups should be left to RWD cars. But hey that's just my It's your car so you do what you want. Who gives a fuck what people like myself think!

I say do it, not only because its a good deal, but because who cares? We are not all on a race track where it really matters if you have an inch of extra width on the rear tire. 90% of the people won't even know the difference, another 5% wont be able to tell what staggered is until you probably tell them, and the other 5% think the TL is a RWD car.

man go with the staggered all the way bro... i am currently on a 20x10 rear and 20x8.5 front and would of slit my wrist if i would of not gone staggered. It looks super aggressive and super luxuries. I love it.

the biggest drawbacks besides not being to rotate the tires are that a staggered setup increases understeer on a car that already understeers in it's stock form, cus of the increased grip you're gonna be putting on the back. if you don't race your car or drive it that hard then it's no big deal, it won't hurt the car at all. i thought about doing this but i will save a staggered setup for when i eventually get a rwd car.
there's a pretty long thread a few pages back about this exact same topic.

I am really considering doing this right now too. My question is, is there any tires such as the nitto 420s that i had on my old silverado that is multidirectional for lo pro cars? This would help with the rotation problem. Go for it hommie, let us know how it turns out! I am looking at ordering some 20x8.5/ 20x10's....just trying to figure out some fitment problems wit the bbk.
Besides its your car....do what you want...it will def. look good though.

Niice... How did you check the fitment for the BBK? I am trying to find rims that I know will work with it. I have been considering the Donz montanas, or the makaveli's like you have. Although, I would like to go with a 20x10 in the rear. Could u pm me with the costs of your setup?

I'm not too familliar with rotora, is their specs the same as what we have on our car? If so, how did you get the template? I need to get a hold of one of those!

35mm offset. It clears BBK too.
Make sure you get the right tire size or you will be grinding.

I was planning on going with 20x8.5 - 225/30/20 for the fronts and 20x10- 255(?)/30/20 in the rears. 35mm offset seems to be the most common that works with no rubbing... I am trying to get in contact with Donz to make sure i can clear the brakes.
Does that sound like it will work? I am getting the drop at the same time...I just cant decide if I want to go with the Tien SS or Eibach pro...I can get the Eibach pro for cost, but many people seem to favor the tien...so i cant decide

i like the teins because i have the ability to raise and lower my car. When i put on my stock 17s or my a spec 18s i can slam it if i want and i raise it back up alittle when i put back on the 20s. This way i get the drop that I like. But $$$ is a factor too and its all up to u at the end. u should be fine with 255 in the rear but still need to trim the a spec kit in the rear if u have it.

If you go with a 225/30/20 it will look to small in the front.....245 are the right size and they don't rub, you have to do the fender alterations on all four sides.
ALright thanks alot...hey one last ? If you go look at your fronts....how much space is inbetween the rim and breaks? Is there alot of room?
