Anyone use 215/45/17 on their TLS?
Hey you mod'ers.
Has anyone put 215/45/17s on their stock TLS rims?
I know that the manufacturers recommend 7in rims, but I've noticed that the 215/45/17s have the same or at least very close to the same tire and tread width as the 215/50/17s.
I'm really wanting to go with those tires as they run about 1-2lbs lighter and have just a slightly smaller diameter, which would have minimal impact on the speedometer.

I have 215/45/17, but I haven't put them on yet. I doubt it will have much effect on the speedo. I also compare the wheels next to my 205/60/16 and they look like about the same height, but of course it's a little wider. BTW, I have 7.5" width on the rims.

But I am a little worried about my 6.5" rims being good enough for my style of driving.

This is the main reason why I chose the CL-s wheels instead of the TL-s. Your choice of tires for the TL-s wheels is pretty much down to one...215/50-17.
If you want to go with wider tires, you will need to go with a wider wheel.

Ive got about 200 miles on my new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/45/17s and the improvement over the stock tires is dramatic.
I am easily adding 15-20 % to my cornering speeds and have no more ridiculous squealing!
Great ride, too. Just a bit more road noise, but its a mid frequency buzz and not anoying at all.

I'm really hoping to cut down on the excessive wheel spin on hard launches. I'm sure this accounts for the poor 0-60 times verses other cars, and could explain the better 1/4 or 0-100 times the the Type S has verses the BMW 3 series and such.
I know that when I hang or pull the guy off the line, I've won every race. I've had a few where I caught them, but not many.
I'll be making my selection soon. My choices have been narrowed down to:
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 - 215-50-17
Toyo FZ4 - 215-45-17
Falken ZE-512 Ziex - 215-50-17
Falken ZE-502 Ziex - 215-45-17
Falken ZE-512 Ziex - 205-50-17*
Pierilli p7000 SuperSport - 205-15-17
The Falken ZE-512 205-50-17 is not due out until late Q3 of this year and I probably won't be able to hold out that long.
I'm leaning toward the Falken's because of their light tire weight.
