Is anyone running 235/45/17s on stock TLS rims? If so, have you had any issues and would you recommend it? I know I saw a few posts a while back about this so please help me out. I really need new tires and wanted something grippier and wider .

It will be manufacturer specific but it should be fine.
As long as the specified range allows for a 7 inch rim you will be only 1/2 inch out of spec which is no big deal with a 4.2 inch sidewall.
FWIW I had 245/45/17 on stock TLS rims and they were fine (firestone SZ50)

How long did these Firestones last (or why did you replace them)? Did you see any drops in gas mileage? What are you running on now?

Hi, yes, switched to Bridgestone 235/45/17's on factory TL-S rim and was an immediate and very well needed improvement. Have Comptech springs and OEM body kit on the White Diamond Pearl and these wheels look much better than stock, have agreat tread pattern, and were noticeably quiter, sticker and smoother than factory. I'm from ND and they seem to be just fine in winter too.
I'm ordering an 04 next month, and first thing I'm getting rid of is factory rubber, it was that much better.
No problems with rubbing, speedo is still almost bang on, and as I said, much better all around.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I went to one of those tire changing calculators and i found that at everything matches between the two specs. In fact, even the speedo is quite accurate. At 100 MPH, it will show 99.7MPH and at 70MPH it will show 69.7. So it sounds like the way to go. Thanks for replying!

Most 235/45/17's are listed with a 7.5" wheel minimum. I'd really like to know if they'll fit as well (I've got 7" wide wheels.)
This is what I'm considering....

The Continental ContiExtreme Contacts I just bought are not cutting it (read - vibration at freeway speed.) Really pissing me off..

I've seen pictures of someone running 235/45s on stock TLS rims. No rubbing and it actually preserves the speedometer reading the best according to several tire calculators on the web. My friend says running this size on 17x6.5 is not an issue since it's only 0.5 off. He's running them on his older body Maxima. So it looks like I'm going with 235/45/17 Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. Ask Tirerack or your local shop where you're getting it put in if they have any issues on working with that size or if they have any concerns. Please post here how it all turns out! I still have 5000 miles before tire change.

What Mr. Hyde is trying to point out is a 235/45/17 tires needs a 7.5" wide wheel, minimum. Your OEM TL wheels are 6.5" wide. That's a full inch narrower than the tire manufacturer sets for the mimimum limit.

You're right, 215/45/17 is way to short. I'd say 225/45/17 will work fine for ya.
Take care,
Jim
