I just bought a set of General Exclaim UHP's in 245/35/19 for $161 each and General has a promo right now that if you buy 4 tires you get a $50 Visa gift card in the mail. Got them from the local America's Tire (same as Discount Tire). I told them Tire Racks' price was $149 ea and they matched it plus added $12 Ea for shipping which Tire Rack would also have charged. If the first local store you call won't price match, call another till you find one that will.
The Exclaim has very good reviews on Tire Rack as well as here.

The Exclaim UHP is General Tire's Ultra High Performance Summer tire that was developed for the drivers of sports cars, coupes and sedans.

I have a new set of falken Ziex 912 just installed into the 07 Type S. The handling has been excellent and the price is not breaking the bank. The Ziex 502 is much more economical but the tread is a bit more ugly. The dealership ppl have a lot of good things to say about the falken as well. And it should be able to tackle just a bit of the light snow before I swap the set into the winter tires.

While meeting minimum tread design standards to be "M+S" branded, the Exclaim UHP is designed to provide high levels of traction, response and control in dry conditions, along with superior hydroplaning resistance in wet conditions. We do not suggest Exclaim UHP tires be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.'
According to the reviews, it has excellent wet traction as well. We don't get a whole lot of snow here in the NW so it's not a priority for me but it might be for others.

Had a set of Yokohama AVID W4S's installed on my "other" (wife's) TL, and '05 automatic, around 6 weeks ago. Two weeks ago, we took her car on a short (5-day) vacation where we managed to put over 1200 miles on her car in five days under interstate highways, nice two-lane roads, and in-town driving. Her new W4S's were very impressive. Quiet and sure-footed, they did just fine.

I like the Continental ContiExtreme and Kumho ASX. They are both best sellers in their class. Ultra High Performance All Season. I have owned both types and they both do very well. Especially in the rain. I do Like the Continentals better as far as looks. They are both 235/45-17. The continentals are $113 with tread wear of 400 and the Kumhos are $98 with tread wear of 420.

I went with the Yoko AVID H4S vice W4S. Tire Rack doesn't sell them so I went with Discount Tires Direct ($119 + free shipping). Granted, they're H-rated and not W-rated, but they're cheaper, have a better tread life (500), slightly nicer ride, and a 60K mile warranty. So far I've been very happy with them and they seem to be a nice match for the car if you're looking for an A/S tire. Dry traction is excellent and wet traction is very good. Snow traction is good, but not great.

I LOOOOOOVE my Goodyear Eagle GTs. Torrential downpour in Charlotte a few days ago and I did some "experimenting". Just short of locking them up from 45mph in about 1/4" of water, and zero hydroplaning.
Plus, they look very good on the car. See below at the bottom:

I got a new set of 18" A-Specs and put on the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's (245/40ZR/18). Love the quietness, handling and they look good too! Got them for $159 ea. I looked for the perfect tires to death and came up with this one for me.

I assume you meaan 235/45. I recommend the 245/45-17's. They are only about 3/8" taller that will fill out the wheel wheel slighly more than the stock tire-3/16" into the wheel well and slightly wider. Especially when the tire starts to wear and the 235 tire will look like roller skates on the car, but then again some like the look of a smaller diameter tire, so it's your choice. Either would be fine and will present no problem, but tire choice (brand) is most important.

I'm using Falken Ziex 912 and so far these tires have been great. They are just as quite as the stockies I had on the car with the added benefit of great grip. The tire tread is also bi-directional so they can be swapped left to right / front to back to help extend the life of the tires.
The tread pattern isn't as aggressive looking as some tires but they do the job for an "all season" tire. I have a set of dedicated winters so these really will only be used for the summer months.
I've read some reviews about the 912’s don't perform so well in the winter but under wet driving conditions so far they have handled well/very predictable.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this tire again, I think they are reasonably priced and well worth looking into.

Check out Pirrelli P-Zero Nero M + S. I wrote some reviews on them at Tire-Rack. They last about 60k in aggressive driving, (and yes, I drive my car HARD), have great wet and light snow traction, and are well worth the money. They've since been replaced by a newer version, but if you want a great handling tire that's quiet and is great in rain and still lasts, get these. I bought 16 tires (4 sets) before they went out of production.

I just had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus put on my car last week. i got them from tirerack.com for $181 ea and you get a $60 prepaid visa card when you buy four.
My previous tire was the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.
These are priced higher than what you are looking to spend, but they are good tires to consider.

Interestingly, I also specified a four wheel alignment with this job. When they put my car on their elaborate rack, it was spot on and did not need any adjustments at all. This means my '04 manual TL has never needed or had an alignment, but has been checked.

I just got Dunlop sp sport signature all seasons 235/45/17. Just had them installed today but already cornering is much better and the ride seems smoother than with the Turanza's (which are shit as we know) I got them from Tire rack for $106 each and they shipped in 2 days. I haven't had Dunlops for a while but I used to live by the Sport 8000's. I'm sure I'll be more than happy with these too.
