5th set of tires on 04 TL
My car just turned over 81K miles and was told I need another set of tires. This will be my 5th set since purchasing the car in June 2004. Is this normal??? This yearly expense is killing me!

It all depends what kind of tires are you putting on? What is the treadwear rating? Are the tires wearing evenly? Are YOU actually measuring the tread depth or just taking the shops recommendation?
Your right 81K, and 5 sets of tires?! It can be numerous items, if wear is uneven then get an alignment. If you are using tires with treadwear rating of 240 or less, thats your answer. If you are just listening to the shops, they are in the market to make money, get yourself a tire gauge and check for yourself BEFORE you take it to the shop, so it looks like YOU know what your talking about

If you want a summer tire/all season tire.
If money is no option go with Bridgestone Potenza RE960A/S, treadwear rating of 400
If money IS a factor then you can go with Falken FK452s, treadwear rating of 300.
Or even Goodyear Eagle F1 which have a treadwear rating of 420.

driving style, type of tires, and properly inflated can all be the cause. I have an evo that I get about 8k out of each set. I live in the mountains and I drive a 14 mile each way mountain road. I expect the stock tl-s tires to last about 15-20k. If you are driving mostly freeway and not many canyon type roads I would say you are going through rubber fast. I have tried the toyo prox 4's and they seem to be a good all around tire. Not a lot of grip but decent, good tread wear, and m&s rated. Oh and cheap.

Not knowing anything about tires or their performance I posted here looking for info. I drive to and from work, 35 miles each way for a total of 70 miles a day. I put approx 20,000 miles on my car a year. The set of tires I have on my car right now are Dunlop SP Sport 5000 P235/45ZR17 93W. They have 19,000 miles on them and they are bald. My question is, is this normal wear? The car was aligned when the tires were installed, they were rotated at 6,000 miles and then again at around 14,000 miles. When I went in for the 3rd rotation at 19,000 miles, I was told to get all new tires. I find this ridiculous. I do not race my car, nor drive at excessively high speeds, nor drive on mountain roads, I drive mainly on the highway.
