45 offset versus 55 offset

I have a question I want to buy a set of rims that have a 55 offset and mount them on my 2006 TL which I understand has a 45 offset. Just curious to see if this is even posssible and if so can any damage be done to my new TL?

This is a great board by the way

THOSE rims will sit narrower and shallower (i.e. opposite of wide)..... wont look very good. They may hit something inside or the shocks as well.

Thanks Twenties for the reply to my post. I was curious about the 45 versus 55 offset since I saw on Acura of E on ebay today that the TSX has 17" A-spec looking wheels. Right now since I got an almost brand new TL I am having a hard time justifying buying new 18" tires to get the A - spec looking rims. I was hoping that getting a 17" rim that looked great like the A - spec ones without having to upgrade the tires as well.

Is there anyplace online that I can find 17" rims that look as good or better than the A - spec rims that will fit my new tires on my TL?

55 offset will be for the older generation TL's. YOu don't want to go any higher than 45 or lower than 35mm offset.

OK thanks for the great advice to not go any lower than 35 offset or higher than 45 offset. That gives me a good place to start looking for rims.

Thanks for all the great posts

Wink

Just wait a year or so if you wont to get some good wear out the stock tires. Then get a new wheel/tire combo in 18-19-20 depending on your weather & road conditions. Dont waste money on different style 17". You can start looking on www.tirerack.com and www.modularewheels.com to figure out what style wheels you like.
