255/40/17 Toyo Proxes 4
Does anyone have any experience with Toyo Proxes 4s in 255/40/17 size in winter driving conditions? I know that typically wider tires = worse traction in these condidtions but the EL42s were so bad I'm hoping that even in the wider size the better tires will at least provide equal performance. Even though the EL42s are bad I wouldn't say they were dangerous if I drove sensibly. If the wider Toyos can do as well or better I should be fine. If not I may go with the 245/40s.
I ordered the tires and should have them by the weekend. I just wnat to make sure I don't make a mistake with them. The guy in the store tried to steer me toward the 245/40s, but mostly because they were already in stock.
Anyone have any input/experience to share? Thanks.

I had these tires installed last month. They've been through one snow storm and did great.
I had to replace the OEM Potenzas that came with the car (HPT option - summer tire). These tires left us stuck several times this winter - absolutely no traction in ANY snow / ice. Of course they're not designed for it, but I thought a front drive car with a clutch could make it through. I was wrong.
The Toyos seemed to do just fine in the snow - even with the wider tread.
BTW - I love the look of the 255/40/17s. Nice wide look, no rubbing, and no more scuffed rims.
