235/40/18 or 225/40/18 ?

Im runnin 235/40/18 right now on Aspec rims 18. It is getting hard and the price is up on the 235/40/18. My worried is if it is ok on getting the 225/40/18, it is a bit lower, do it gonna affect car performance? Any advise will ne apreciate....

Are your A-Specs 8" wide? You could run a 225 but I believe 235s were suggested by the factory.

Tires are the ONLY thing between you and the road, don't skimp out on them.

dont' be cheap about the tires....get the OEM spec'd tires at a minimum, unless you're going for a stretched look. and yes...it will affect performance.

I would stick with a 235. You have more rubber on the road and more sidewall protection.

A 225 on an 8" wheel won't be stretched at all. It'll actually be marginally less stretched than a 235 on an 8.5" wheel, which is a pretty popular (and pretty flush) setup. I mean, Acura sold both the 8 and 8.5" A-Specs with 235's, so if the 235 is ok on the 8.5, the 225 will be fine on the 8". Not to mention, some 225's are just as wide as some 235's.

Your speedo will read a bit high, but not bad.

I had 225 on my aspec wheels and they were perfect. I bought the car with that tire size and I was lucky as well because when I installed my coilovers (tucking full tire) they were the right fitment without rubbing in full locking u-turns. The difference with 225 & 235 is really slim... If you check out the link I posted it's only 2mm shorter on the width. So there is not really any performance issues.. And also on my Work wheels, I'm rocking a 215/40 on a 9.5 and even with that I have no problems at all. Even high speed turns I have no problem with the unbeading or loosing air...
