So, I can get a great deal on some Michelin X-Ice Winter Tires, in a 215/55/16 size configuration. The only thing I would need to do is to buy some winter rims (likely steel rims; why ruin a nice pair of rims with winter weather/elements?).

My question is in regards to rim fitment. I don't think the tires pose a problem according to this tire size calculator:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

My results when comparing this smaller tire to stock are as follows.

No real odometer change there.

I'm used to putting winter tires on winter rims; being doing it for years on many makes and models. Now, the TL is new to me, and so is the tire pressure sensor that is mounted in the stock rims. Should I try and get tire pressure sensors/valves mounted in the winter rims? If so, won't I have to adjust the default tire pressure sensor on the car for this new tire/rim combination? Will I affect the VSA and other safety/performance features of the car by using smaller, likely heavier rims and non-performance tires like the Alpins and such? ?

OK, so from what I have read on the TPMS posts and responses since I started this thread, I should be able to buy some Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors, have them installed (and torqued properly so they stay in place correctly) in the winter rims, and that is it. I just need to be careful I order winter rims with the proper bolt pattern, mount the tires, install, balance, and that is it.

If anyone has any information / suggestions to offer, thanks in advance.
