Question 2003 TL- Type-S Tire Replacement!!

I have a 2003 TL Type-S with stock tires and rims. I am looking to swap out my sucky stock Michilin tires. I know that there is something wrong with one or more of my stock tires because the car drives like $hit. I feel every bump in the road and I know that it didn't feel anything like this when I bought the car (I currently have 15k miles on her). Unfortunately I don't know what to get. Already taken to the dealership and was told that nothing is leaking and shocks and struts are fine. Thus my conclusion that it must be the tires.

My tire requirements are as follows:
1)All Season Tire
2)Same size as stock tire

My top priorities (listing from most to least): COMFORT COMFORT COMFORT!!

A)Noise/Comfort
B)Treadlife
C)Handling

Please help me out and let me know where I can find the specific tire that you are recommending

Thanks in advance!

Well I honestly am more into sportier tires. So I can't help much but to point out no one else is giving good reccomendations... they are talking about sport tires that will wear fast and not give you good all-season performance. Maybe someone will actually read your post. I would just try looking at tire rack and giving them a call for a reccomendation.

Consider the Continental ContiExtreme Contact. I've only had them a few days but damn these tires are nice. I've had a chance to push them a little on dry pavement and they hold very nicely. I've also tested them in the rain and these tires really have good stopping power, I have almost no slippage at all. As for comfort, MUCH MUCH more comfortable than the Sumi's I had, and not noisy at all. I think they are about the same as the stock Michi's. I can't really comment on treadlife at this point, too early.

I hope that helps. Just my $.02

Continental ContiExtreme Contact and the sumitomo htr+ are extremly good tires , better handeling quieter better in the snow and better tread life than the stock tires also. you cant go wrong with either one. the es100 is not an all season nor are the kumho's.

I've got one final question left for you guys. Bear in my I have a 2003 Type-S
I know that I can get the Sumitomo HTR+ in stock tire size but does the Continental ContiExtreme Contact tires also come in the stock size? Additionally, which of the two will yield me a more comfortable ride AND WHY .... PLEASE GIVE A REASON. I'm not interested in Performance or speed just comfort and tread life.

Both tires come in stock size. I went from 225/45 Sumi's back to 215/50 Conti's and the ride comfort is much better. I don't think I should comment too much on the comfort factor because I'm sure the change in profile has a lot to do with it. However, I can say that compared to stock is feels the same, maybe a little bit better.

as far as more comfortable ride? its gonna be hard to obtain that with a 17 and a 50 series tire the contiextreme and sumitomo are both really good tires and i like the way the rid on the hwy ALOT better than the factory tires. less noise, overall just a better feeling tire. i got around 10,000 more miles out of my HTR+'S than the factory tires and im hard on them. my sis has the contiextremes and they are a very good tire. the same or better than the HTR+'s and have a higher tread wear rating.

Well the TL-S comes stock with 215/50/17 so if you put a 215/50/17 Sumi or Conti, the ride quality shouldn't be that far off. At that point it depends on the quality and composition of the rubber being used.

I hadn't checked out the Continental tires yet. I must admit, the survey results and specs do look impressive.

I have Sumi's on my TL-S, and I really like them. A good point about the Sumi's is that they use that JointLess Band technology that I've seen (and used) on other Dunlop tires.

Why is JLB good? Have you ever had a tire that had 20k+ miles on it and would pull the steering wheel in strange directions when going over bumps? JLB helps the tires keep their structural integrity for a longer time and helps avoid that irritating symptom of internal breakdown.

One thing I noticed is that the warranty is longer on the Sumi's, but prorated after 50% wear . The Conti's warranty is not prorated, and offer free replacement for 4 years .

I don't think you can go wrong with either tire.

OK guys thanks for all your help. I've decided on the Sumi HTR+ for my TL-S and got it from tiretrack.com who have AMAZING prices! I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm going to try and sell the 3 good stock tires on E-Bay and see what I get (only 12,000 miles on them) one of the tires went thus giving me the excuse to replace all 4 ............ anyway thanks again!

Did you get stock size? Did they hassle you about load capacity?

Continental ContiExtremeContact ?

Time for replacement tires on my 2003 Acura TL-S.

Having read the reviews on Tirerack.com, it seems that the Continental ContiExtremeContacts are probably my best bet.

Reviews in this forum have been pretty favorable, too.

One concern: A few reviews on Tirerack indicate either a difficulty in getting these tires properly balanced, or with the tires sometimes being out of round.

Any experiences there? Are these tires a good pick?

Thanks.

Well I've had mine for over 5k miles and so far so good. They handle great, wear well, and give the car the sure-footedness it needs. Only thing I was told was that the tires tend to wear somewhat more than other tires, so rotating tires every 5k miles would help keep them even. I had mine balanced without any issues and so far so good. Not quite sure what u mean by "out of round".

Hope that helps!!

Michelin Premeir a/s

The Michelin Premeir is a great tire! All season traction is great due to the 3D sype design and also has a new technology "safe when new safe when worn".
I've herd nothing but good thing about this tire and I work in a tire center

Why resurrect a thread that's 11 years old asking about an '03 2nd gen?
Need to know if car has Brembo calipers up front, either 6MT or '07-'08 TLS, or just a base AT.
