19x9.5 vs 18x8.5 Es9 2004 Acura TL 6MT

Hello all,

Now I know that this question has been answered probably in many post but I just want a specific answer regarding the set of wheels i'm thinking of picking up. Fist 2part question is how would a set of 19 x 9.5 +22 wheels fit with a 235/35 tire size all around? How stretched will the tires be and will they not be practical for a daily driver? I spoke with the vendor of Varrstoen regarding their Es9 series and they stated that the 19 x 9.5 would work with 225/35 tire since that is preferred (not sure by whom) but he also stated that I can go no larger than 235/35.
Second question is regarding 18 x 8.5 +35 set up.. how would this fit and would this be more practical performance wise? The vendor stated both setups would clear the Brembos but I would like to run the 19's if I could without modification, since the 19's only come in a matte black finish other than the 18's in a gloss white.
I also know the dangers in stretching tires which is not what i'm interested in doing. so I wanted to know how stretched will the 235/35 be? any pics will be appreciated! also my vehicle is at stock height.

if your vehicle is stock height, your car will look like ass with stretched tires...
the 19x9.5+22 wheels will poke out past the fenders and you want to stretch....it will look like a clown car.

I suggest if you are not ever interested in lowering the vehicle to go with the 18x8.5 +35...it's about the width.... not the diameter...you can choose a 19x8.5 +35 if you wish and if available.

if you do wish to lower, it would be wise to get the more aggressive spec'd 9.5 +22's, as then you can lower and camber out.

but at stock height, wide wheels and stretched tires will look like a funny clown car

I think it'll be funny for it to look like a clown car.
Do it!

i had a very slight stretch with 245/40/18s on my 18x9.5+22 wheels. to me it looked like a super clown car!
I HAD to throw it on coils

"...cant afford suspension right now....but it looks like ass.........fuck it, coilovers here we go!"

lower always comes before wheels.
unless you don't like attention from beautiful girls and slightly post-pubescent boys.

Terribly. A 9.5 wheel requires a 275 to be square, 265 is a bit stretched, then you go down from there. 245 should be the minimum on a 9.5" wheel, but there are lots of idiots out there... And 19's? With a 25.3" stock OD? Oh brother...don't get me started.

Very stretched, and not practical at all.

It would fit perfectly, especially with a 245/40 tire. Much more practical as well.

Because you have Brembo's, you have to be a bit careful with the offset, but by in large, all of these guys running under +30 are deep-dish fanboi's willing to give up comfort/practicality/performance for the look. Nothing wrong with that, to each their own, but the 18 x 8.5 +35 is a much smarter play. Acura themselves makes an 18 x 8.5 +45, so you're not that far off from there.

i guess i am an idiot.. here is my massively undersized 235/40 on a 9.5" wheel... looks terrible right?

in reality theres barely any stretch going on here.. A 265 tire on a 9.5 isnt going to be anywhere NEAR stretched.. it'll still look beefy as fuck, especially on a TL... who the hell actually gets anything above 255s on a daily driven TL
and my setup is completely practical and daily driven the only downside of running slightly stretched tires is not having any lip protection

Maybe I was a bit harsh in my wording, sorry you took offense, my apologies. Doesn't look too bad, but it's still wrong for the wheel, in more ways than one.

Here's where you go South. There is a LOT of stretch going on there, and a 265 IS stretched on a 9.5 wheel. You want proof? Have a look.

Me.

And having a super small sidewall that rides like a brick, and offers no wheel protection at all.

As I said before, 275 is square on a 9.5" wheel, do the math. The 265 will have a little stretch, 255 even more. Here are my old 255's on the same wheels...

For a DD, 245/40 or 255/40 would be best, 235's are for fanboi's.

One last thing to note. There is no standardization with tire sizes, so there are 235's out there that are as wide as 245's, and vice versa. But there are also 235's are fit like 225's. In any case, it's the wrong size for the wheel, and the picture you posted doesn't do the stretch justice, I'm sure I could show it better if I was to take the pic.

^Agree with Andrew!

I just don't understand the undersizing of tires for look. Really?

I want all the tread I can get!

thanks everyone for y'alls post. Im not a fan of the stretched tires but i do think they look nice af. i'm looking for a more beefy look... just like i like my ladies haha i most likely will go with the 18x8.5 wheels one of these days. However based on the spoke set up on the pics above.. does anyone have any idea if the 8.5 wheels clear brembo without spacers? (noob status) also would the 18s look bad with stock hight? I'm needing new tires next month for inspection time but not really feeling it when it comes to buying new rubber for the stock wheels.

70/30 chance of it not clearing brembos without spacers
