18x8 or 18x8.5

I'm upgrading from the OEM 17" to 18" and i'm not sure if I should get 18x8 or 18x8.5.
If I get 18x8, what size tire should I get? 235/40R18 or 245/40R18? Anyone with 18x8 wheels with 245/40R18 tires?

I'm considering the A-spec wheels or the Enkei RPM2.

2004 optional wheels are 18 x 8.5 gun metal (A-SPEC)
2005 optional wheels are 18 x 8.0 silver sparkle, chrome look (=A-SPEC) and hyper black (although I am less certain about the last color choice)

04 and 05 wheels in A-SPEC came with 235/40/18 tires.

I had 2004 18 x 8.5 wheels with 235/40/18 tires and wheels stuck out further than tire edge with no rim protection resulting in trashed rims

ACURA just replaced my 04 with 05’s
See my post https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/fs-obx-ss-headers-nib-no-gaskets-109832/

I now have 2005 18 x 8.0 wheels with 245/40/18 tires and the fit is much better with some (but certainly not optimal) rim protection

Optimally, a 255 or ideally a 265/35/18 tire may be the best choice. The question some of us have is whether they will fit without rubbing with the A-SPEC suspension which lowers the car. No-one yet seems to have tried either of these combos in cars with the A-SPEC suspension. With the standard set up. I believe you are ok even with the 265/35/18 series tires. Size wise, the 265/35/18 is a better fit in minimizing speedo error

I'm having 245/40YR18 PS2s installed on 18x8 silver sparkles for my 04 6MT. I saw the tires mounted on the wheels today. As SBTL stated, while there's some rim protection, it's not a lot. That said, it doesn't appear that the PS2 has an over-large "lip" for rim protection.... My personal opinion is that these things (rim protection lips) are relatively worthless b/c by the time you come in contact with the curb, a little bit of soft rubber isn't going to compete effectively with a 2 ton TL. (okay, it's not quite two tons)

18x8,with 235/40R18, so you don't throw off the spedometer.

I saw these wheels that are 18x8.5. I'm thinking of putting 245/45R18. Would it be bad? The 04 A-spec was 18x8.5. I think Acura thought it was alright.

Acura changed it to 18x8 because the original ones were getting scraped. Or was there other reasons?

going with the 245/40/18 would be fine. the overall diameter of the wheel does not change much if at all.

Honestly, I bet it's because of the scraping. There's no reason why they would go to the trouble of retooling the wheels for the manufacturing process since the only difference is the colors - which are painted on during post production anyway.

Yes, one reason they changed the ASPEC wheel for 05 was the scraping, but another reason was the requests from 2nd gen owners that wanted the new wheels but the 04s wouldn't fit right. Now the new wheels fit them all.

Personally, I prefer the 8.5 spec for better handling. Just put 245s on and don't listen to the bullshit about throwing off your speedometer. It's only one mph off at 70!

It's your preference. I was more worried about which wheel actually fits over the Brembos and offset. We don't have a lot of choice. I settled for 18x8.5 SSR Competitions with 245/40 tires. I don't scrape with stock suspension.
